(Bump) Contest 01

The contest is over! I'll announce the winner of March 8, 2008.

You can help select the song that I will use for Gwyneth's 2 month birthday video on March 8! You give me your suggestion, and I will choose the song I like best. Winner gets nothing more than a "thank you" and their name/handle posted on my blog!

Here are the rules of the contest:

1) Each person only gets ONE entry, so make it a good one. It can be serious or silly...I promise to check out each suggestion. If you give me more than one song, I'll delete your post and you'll be disqualified from the really awesome prize.

2) No Country Music.

3) No songs with cursing or explicit content.

4) No songs about elephants or paper clips (because I said so). :)

5) Give me the title and artist so I don't have to go searching all over to try to find it.

Have fun!

Nate

  1. That song by... is it Plumb? One of the more rock and roll Christian artists. Some of the lyrics are "Clouds will rain down, waves will crash around but you will be safe in my arms..." I wish I could think of the author and/or the title! Not much help... but if you're interested you could Google it!

  8. Well, I have to submit my favorite hymn because it talks of the amazing love of God. Here is the chorus of "And Can It Be" written by Charles Wesley.

Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Track: #8 "When You Were Born"
This album is great for kids. We've had it for 3 years and we don't get tired of it. There are songs to dance to and lullabys at the end. Many of the songs bring tears to my eyes with their descriptive lyrics and images brought to mind of my DDs as babies. Even if you do not use this track, I hope you will get this album.

  52. In my Daughters Eyes by Martina McBride
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
    In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
    world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
    strength when I am weak
    I find reason to believe
    In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand
    around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
    Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart
    has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
    I've seen the light
    It's in my daugter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
    Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
    she made me
    For I'll be there
    In my daughter's eyes

Verse 1 I never dreamed that one little life
Could bring so much joy to my world
And now I know the power of love
Cause God has sent us an angel above
I never knew there could be so much glory
Your little hand held in mine
Your beautiful eyes and shining face
    Life's proof of God's Grace
    Chorus You are my child
    You are the one
You are the air that I breathe and you are the sun
Through thick and thin I'll be there by your side for all time

    You are my child
    You are the one
You bring new meaning and joy into my life
No matter whatever I'll be there forever
    My child
Verse 2 Every time that I look at your sweet little soul
I'm reminded of what a miracle is
Your first breath and cry for life
Tears of joy from my beautiful wife
Your smiles your laughter your giggles your kicks
    Will be remembered for always
Your beautiful eyes and shining face
    Life's proof of God's Grace
    Chorus You are my child
    You are the one
You are the air that I breathe and you are the sun
Through thick and thin I'll be there by your side for all time

    You are my child

  65. "Daddy's Little Girl", originally by the Mills Brothers but the Michael Buble version is very good as well.

You’re the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold.
You're daddy's little girl, to have and hold.
    A precious gem is what you are;
You're mommy's bright and shining star.

You’re the spirit of Christmas, the star on our tree.
You’re the Easter Bunny to Mommy and me.
You’re sugar, you're spice, and you're everything nice
    And You’re Daddy’s Little Girl

You’re a treasure I cherish, all sparkling and bright.
    You were touched by Holy and beautiful light;
    Like the angels who sing, a heavenly thing;
    And you’re Daddy’s Little Girl

  119. I Will Be Here(Steven Curtis Chapman)

Tomorrow morning if you wake up
and the sun does not appear
    I will be here
If in the dark, we lose sight of love
Hold my hand, and have no fear
    'Cause I will be here

    I will be here
When you feel like being quiet
When you need to speak your mind
    I will listen
    And I will be here
When the laughter turns to cryin'
Through the winning, losing and trying
    We'll be together
    I will be here

Tomorrow morning, if you wake up
    And the future is unclear
    I will be here
Just as sure as seasons were made for change
Our lifetimes were made for these years
    So I will be here

    I will be here
And you can cry on my shoulder
When the mirror tells us we're older
    I will hold you
    And I will be here
To watch you grow in beauty
And tell you all the things you are to me
    I will be here

I will be true to the promise I have made
To you and to the One who gave you to me

Tomorrow morning, if you wake up
And the sun does not appear
    I will be here
    Oh, I will be here.

I know it's usually a wedding song, but I think the lyrics apply.

I can't believe you said no country songs!! There are so many good ones (A few that were mentioned like "My LIttle Girl", "In my Daughter's eyes" and "My wish" all GREAT SONGS!!) I'm NOT suggesting those, so don't delete my comment! I'm just saying, you might WANT to reconsider! =)

  130. I absolutely love the song Amazing by Janelle. I used it in a video montage I made when we had our baby. The words just fit perfect for how I felt the day he was born.

    You can check out the video I made to hear the song;

Have fun picking out a song and I can't wait to see her two month video :)

  131. Hi Tricia and Nate (and Gwyneth)! We have never commented before but we have been following your story since the day before Gwyneth was born. We have been praying for you and we check on Tricia and Gwyneth's progress several times a day. =)

I guess we ought to introduce our family! We are the Chambers family and we have two very special kids. Our daughter Lydia was born with complex congenital heart defects. She has a single ventricle heart and has had three reconstructive open heart surgeries so far. She is doing awesome though and is now 4 years old. Our son Caleb has a lot in common with your Gwyneth! After a very high risk pregnancy in which the doctors said he mostly likely wouldn't make it to 24 weeks, was born at 28 weeks weighing 1lb.15oz. He is two now and is doing wonderful. So between our two kids we've spent a lot of time in the hospital and NICU!

Now, I know that that was a lot to say before suggesting a song, but I thought you'd like to know where it was coming from. We made several videos of Caleb in the NICU and we used several songs from a CD called "Lullabies: Close your Eyes." It is a beautiful CD. One of our favorite songs was "You're only little for a little while." It was so perfect. When we did a memoir of his whole stay through the NICU after he came home we used the song "Welcome Home" from that same CD. Here is a link to where you can download it: http://www.amazon.com/Lullabies-Close-Your-Various-Artists/dp/B000021YIC

We hope this helps. We are praying for your family! God Bless.

Steven, Laine, Lydia and Caleb Chambers

  134. Wow, this post is probably the fastest growing with comments!

I know, you're probably sick of using Coldplay, but the song "Swallowed in the Sea" stands out to me.

"You put me on a line and hung me out to dry
Darling, that's when I decide to go see you
You cut me down to size and opened up my eyes
Made me realize what I could not see".

I don't know, the song just reminds me love. Everyone else suggested great songs! :)

  137. "Lost Inside of You" from the Streisand/Kristofferson sountrack of "A Star is Born"

    Time has come again
And love is in the wind
Like some music in a dream
You mode them all come true
When you came inside of my life
Now I'm lost inside of you
Lost in the music and lost in your eyes
I could spend all of my time
    Hearing songs you sing
    Feeling love you bring
    Darling being close to you
Made all my dreams come true
When you came inside my life
Now I'm lost inside of you

  147. I see some left the lyrics for you - here are the lyrics to "Find Your Wings" by Mark Harris

It's only for a moment you are mine to hold The plans that heaven has for you Will all too soon unfold So many different prayers I'll pray For all that you might do But most of all I'll want to know You're walking in the truth
And if I never told you I want you to know As I watch you grow

I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams And that faith gives you the courage To dare to do great things I'm here for you whatever this life brings So let my love give you roots And help you find your wings

May passion be the wind That leads you through your days And may conviction keep you strong
Guide you on your way May there be many moments That make your life so sweet Oh, but more than memories I pray that God will fill your heart with dreams And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings So let my love give you roots And help you find your wings

It's not living if you don't reach for the sky I'll have tears as you take off But I'll cheer as you fly

I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams And that faith gives you the courage To dare to do great things I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings

  149. oh, i know you explained the rules but i really cant think of the name of the song(i can sing it as plain as day in my head) however, please dont delete! i can tell you its the very first song played on the wild thornberrys movie cd and just as a hint the song lyrics go... "as long as one and one is two(whoo-hoo) there will never be a father, who loves his daughter more than i love you!" this song is not a sad song nor is to fast paced, in fact my husband danced with our daughter at her 10th birthday party a few months prior to her death from cancer.. please take a listen and if you cant use it now, maybe it would be a perfect song to keep for her 1 year video or a wedding dance...smile u wont have to go to far to find it "wild thornberrys" movie cd

    LIFE IS A HIGHWAY

    Every word is PERFECT :)

Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's ne day here and the next day gone
Somethimes you bend and sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your head to the wind
    There's a world outside ev'ry darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
    We won't hesitate
    Break down the garden's gate
There's not much time left today

    Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
    If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long

Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love you now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights

Knock me down get back up again
    You're in my blood
    I'm not a lonely man
    There's no load I can't hold
Road so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
    Just tell 'em we're survivors

    Gimme gimme gimme gimme yeah
    If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
There was a distance between you and I
    A misunderstanding once
But now we look in the eye

There ain't no load that I can't hold
Road so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
    Just tell 'em we're survivors

    Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
    If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long

  152. Well, I'm gonna say "At Last" by Etta James b/c it's something good, and classic, and the best thing I can come up with off the top of my head since you are canceling out the BEST music...Country! LOL! Anyways, gotta love Oldies but Goodies.
Oh, and i thought I would share the lyrics to the lullaby that I sing to my son, but it's not a suggestion for a song b/c it's not recorded that i know of...
If you'll be M-I-N-E (say each letter), Mine
    I'll be T-H-I-N-E, thine
and I will L-O-V-E, love you
    all the T-I-M-E, time.
    You are the B-E-S-T, best,
    of all the R-E-S-T, rest.
And, I will L-O-V-E, love you,
    all the T-I-M-E, time!

Here is my pick: "Jesus Loves Me"

Be sure to read all the way through because there is an often ommitted stanza at the very end.

Jesus Loves Me - The Lyrics

“Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
    Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.

    Refrain:

    “Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    The Bible tells me so.

“Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
    Taking children on His knee,
Saying, ‘Let them come to Me.’

    “Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.

“Jesus loves me! He who died
    Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

“Jesus loves me! He will stay
    Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.

(Note: this next stanza from the original is commonly omitted in hymnals)

“Jesus loves me! Loves me still,
Though I’m very weak and ill,
That I might from sin be free
Bled and died upon the tree.”

  161. Inside of You by Alice Martineau. Alice Martineau had cystic fibrosis. She always loved singing but never thought she'd be able to because of not having strong enough breathing. But when she tried it turned out she had an amazing voice. The second I heard of your story I thought of this song.
    Especially the opening lines:
    "I like to watch you
    From above
    It's not an ordinary love
    I like to feel you
    So close to me
I Bet I'm nearer than you'll ever see"

    and the chorus:
    "You're letting me live
    Inside of you
    You're letting me live
    As someone new"

    "Somewhere there is an angel
    Watching over your life
    Sometimes there is a silence
Somewhere a face in the light
Know this place is where I am
Know this face is of me
    Know I'm watching over you
    Do you feel it too?"

It makes me think of Tricia's efforts to let her live and how even though she can't be with Gwyneth right now she is in spirit. And also how God is watching over both of them.

  162. Wow, I can't believe I'm the first to mention this one!.......
"The Other Woman In My Life" by Larnelle Harris.

It is a beautiful song! It is My husbands and daughters song.

    The chorus goes:
She's become the other woman in my life. She's the evidence of love between me and my wife. When she was a baby I held her, and as a young girl I watched her become the other woman in my life.

It is an old song and I have no idea where you can find it, but it IS A GOOD ONE!!!!!

    MIRACLE

    Lyrics: Linda Thompson
    Music: Stephen Dorff

    You're my life's one miracle
    Everything I've done that's good
And you break my heart with tenderness
    And I confess it's true
I never knew a love like this 'til you

You're the reason I was born
Now I finally know for sure
    And I'm overwhelmed with happiness
So blessed to hold you close
The one that I love most
Though the future has so much for you in store
Who could ever love you more

    The nearest thing to heaven
    You're my angel from above
Only God creates such perfect love

When you smile AT me I cry
And to save your life I'd die
With a romance that is pure in heart
    You are my dearest part
    Whatever it requires
    I live for your desires
Forget my own, your needs will come before
Who could ever love you more

There is nothing you could ever do
To make me stop loving you
    And every breath I take
    Is always for your sake
    You sleep inside my dreams
    And know for sure
Who could ever love you more
