Perspective (at 11 months)

Although Gwyneth is growing and developing well, she's still a former preemie, which means she's incredibly small (most people still think she's a new-born when meeting her). Gwyneth has several new friends that have come along in the past few weeks...below is a pic of Gwyneth (pale skin on the right, at just under 11 months old) and L-K (who was born a little over a week ago).

  1. Hey Gwyneth, dont knock looking younger than you are, it comes in handy later in life. (Cheaper food, movies etc.) And of course we girls love it when people think that we are younger than our actual age. :0)

  2. Perspective is right....She looks tiny (for her age) compared to other kiddos...but I often go back and look at those photos of when she was first born and it is absolutely amazing to see how much she has grown and how far she has come!!!! God is so good and sweet Gwyneth is such a miracle!!!
Praying for all three of you!

  5. she's perfect! What a cute little foot. It is amazing though to see that perspective.

  6. Her foot looks small in that picture BUT when I go back and look at pictures from 11 months ago her foot now is HUGE!!!

  7. It's insane, my baby is a preemie too, 6 months old and still looks like a newborn. I often have to explain that he is a preemie!

  8. How precious! I love baby feet! She does have some petite little feet!

  9. Oh come on... just take another picture next to that Webkinz pug (NOT the LilKinz....!). THAT would give a better perspective for Gwyneth. I like looking at where SHE is from where she's been.... not at where she is from where someone else is! (maybe I'm just crazy......)

  10. From MY PERSPECTIVE, Gwyneth is just perfect for the MIRACLE she is. Look how far THIS BABY has come, baby! Let's don't give her a little girl complex:) Glad your holiday was so great compared to what we didn't know this time last year. Wow.

  11. My oldest was a 13 wk early preemie, and I can remember doing the same kind of comparisons when she was young.
What we also did was take a picture of her every month with the same bear I recieved two days after she was born. Everyone loved to see how much 'bigger' she was that the bear finally.
Preemies do amazing things in life, things people will tell you that they will never do!

  12. Perspective is always a good thing - as it reminds us to be thankful. I had twin boys that were 13 and a half weeks premature last July. They are now nearly 14 months corrected and they are huge. My one son is 32 pounds and well over the 97th percentile for everything and my other son is 23 pounds - so variable. The key thing is that Gwenyth continues to thrive and develop...continue to stay positive and keep believing!

  13. That's OK. I do have a question though. I had a 26 week preemie. He started getting physical therapy within a couple of months being at home and occupational therapy too. Is that in the future for Gwyneth so she can try and catch up a little? I know it was extremely helpful for my son. Have a great Sunday.

  14. My former preemie is still a peanut too... we have a friend that when he was 8 weeks and she was over 8 months- they were the same exact size. He's since past her. (mine is 16 months and our friends' is 9 months) But she's walking- so she's still cooler...haha :)
You need to get together with the same friend and take the same picture about every month or so...it'll be so fun to look at all of them in another year... or 10 :)

  15. She has come a long way from the day she was born! But the perspective was amazing to see. Thanks for sharing!!

  16. Wow, that is an amazing perspective. But oh what a miracle she is.

  17. perspective...praise God that only His perspective really matters.

I pray that Gwyneth's new little friend never has to fight as hard as Gwyneth did when she was only a few months old...she may still be tiny, but she is tough!

  18. Wow...and yet in those pictures about thanksgiving, she looks so big and well big.
Cant believe she's almost a year old...where has the time gone?

  19. Wow, what a year. I can't believe Gwyneth's almost one!

Because Froggy was failure to thrive, a woman at the farmer's market actually said, "What's wrong with her?" because she was so tiny.

It was hard having a tiny babe and "competing" with all the big kids. Now that she is 3, she is still a Pee Wee, but can keep up with the biggest and best of them!

  20. Wow, that photo really DOES put it in perspective. You don't notice how tiny she is in pics by herself. I would LOVE to see her in a picture with MY newborn. He will be 5 weeks old on Monday.....but he was born at 11 pounds 3 ounces! We are pretty sure he is about 13 or 14 pounds by now! I'd say Gwyneth is doing FABULOUS, especially after seeing her very first pictures on your blog!

  21. Small feet, but NO small MIRACLE!!!

    How's that for PERSPECTIVE???

  22. Hi there,

I've never posted but read every day. My son was born at 28 weeks and weighed in at 966gms (2lb 2oz), at 12 months he was 8090gms (17lb 13oz) and now at 13 he weighs 37.4kgs (82lbs 4oz). He has no spare fat, no bum, eats like a horse and is all long, long legs and arms. He is gifted in English and the light of my life (not even dimmed by the fact that we've entered the teen years). He still has the teddy that we used in his 'growth' photos. The bear that was bigger than he was, now fits in the palm of his hand.

What am I trying to say....there was a point....Gwyneth will grow, in her own time, at her own pace and even though she might be slight, she will always be mighty.

  23. Small FEET or not, what God has brought Gwyneth through is no small FEAT!

    Have a blessed day!

  24. Small but mighty!

On the opposite end my daughter was a big girl and I had to explain well she is only a certain age not a day older!

I see a future cheerleader in the making.

  25. That was really a neat picture. Our first born was a preemie, at 34 years old she still gets people thinking she is 16! 4'10" Jen. She has a tender heart and loves the Lord, that will be our prayer for Gwyneth!

  26. That tiny package is home to a mighty person. Why just look at how many big people she has wrapped around her pinky finger.

  27. Don't sweat the little things, having been a NICU nurse for years and seeing all the reunion babies, they catch up just fine. She's perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, she's a tiny one! My daughter is very small too. Former 25 weeker, had the same birth weight as Gwyneth and will be a year old 2 days after Christmas. She weighs 13 pounds. It's okay, they just stay tiny and cuter longer!

  30. That is amazing...

  31. I guess I can join the party of preemie parents. My son was 28 weeks and weighed 2lb 10 oz. He just had his 3 yr checkup beginning of November and he was
around 30lbs. He is a peanut for sure -- wears size 24 pants, but only with the adjustable waistband! But happy and healthy. Not that you were worried.. because I'm sure that wasn't the intention of the post. But many of us have been there and it all works out fine!
besides the pediatrician told me that me and hubby aren't Shaquille O'Neal so we shouldn't expect Abe to be big! Thanks doc!!

  32. Baby G. rocks! Way to keep it growing! She has come so far! God's hand is on this child.

She is just going to be a hilarious little turbo of a personality. (kind of like Meeka)

  35. wow! that's great to show that and really give a perspective of her size...nevertheless, she's doing marvelous for what she has been through!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. We've got tow little peanuts too. It's hard to remember how far they've come when people ask all the time why they are so small...

  37. Love love love the feet picture!!!

  38. I think she's perfect (as you do)! She will always appreciate being petite - as every girl loves to be!!!

Nate if you think about it please send up a few prayers for my Granddaughter Kailah. I'd appreciated it.

Hope Tricia is doing well. Also hope the house is coming along.

  42. Well, she looks taller though (judging by the calf part of both legs). But what tiny little feet!

  43. Awwwww..look at those little feet...how precious!

  44. Hey, little or not, there is nothing quite as sweet as baby feet. I could get lost in those little creases. I love piggies!

  45. I too had a preemie....not as tiny as Gwyneth by any means....but what was really hysterical was when at 4 months she started getting teeth (8 at one time) and she was still less than 10 lbs....and looked like a newborn with a mouthful of teeth! Yes....she got her teeth very, very early and then lost them early and had all her adult teeth by the time most kids are starting to lose theirs. She's almost 13, has never had a cavity and has the most beautiful teeth.

Gwyneth, you are tiny but mighty!

  46. My little princess was 34 weeks gestation when she was born & when she started walking, she was in a newborn shoe. She'll be 2 in January & weighs less then the average 1 yr old but to see where she's been, she's such a blessing & a gift.

BTW, you are a genius to take that photo, how priceless

  47. She's amazing and such a testimony of God's faithfulness! I'm glad you guys had a great Thanksgiving. We continue to pray for you guys!

  52. Just like Gwyneth, my son was also born weighing 1 pound 6 ounces. He is now a healthy and happy 21 month old. Until very recently, when people asked how old he was, they would look at my like I was crazy when I answered. However, just recently, I have noticed that people do not seem to give his age a second thought. Soon, something will click with Gwyneth as well and she'll be all caught up. Until then, enjoy it while she is little.

  54. Amazing. Our newest Baby Girl is almost 2 months old and people still think she's "fresh." Regardless of her size, Gwyneth continues to amaze everyone. Glad Thanksgiving was a good one. We all have so much to be Thankful for.

  55. My girlfriends daughter was a preemie weighing 2 lbs 11 oz I think and my son was born 4 months earlier at 5 weeks early weighing 6 lbs 11 oz. Well as they grew up, my friends daughter actually PASSED UP my son in height!! So preemies DO catch up and do well. lol My son who was so big for a preemie.. is STILL smaller. He is 18 and is 5 ft 6 or 7. Two of his younger brothers are taller than he is (16 and 13 yrs old).

    I tell him that
Dynamite is small but it makes a BIG BANG! Its not the size that matters BUT what is INSIDE that matters! :o)
Gwyneth is one MIGHTY package!! :o)
    Blessings!

  56. i will be looking at your blog and my daughter, who is 17, will look over my shoulder and say, is that gwyneth? or how is tricia? and she was astounded at the foot picture, just as i am. but i too, would love to see a side-by-side of gwyn with the pug at month one, and another at month 11. and i for one, cannot, CANNOT wait to see the video you come up for her first birthday.
and i thought the wait for christmas was hard. . .

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wow, that really does give you perspective doesn't it? I'm so glad Gwyneth is growing even if she is a "little" behind. She's adorable!

  58. I always remember people "tripping out" whenever they'd see my girls walking (they were 14 months and had BETTER be walking) but being so preemie, they were the size of about 4 month olds.
It cracked me up when i'd see the look on people's faces...

  59. Such a sweet picture!!! I have been reading your blog for over a year now, I think I have commented once or twice before. Our first child was born at 27 weeks (weighing 1.5 lbs at her lowest weight). She is now almost 7 and her almost 5 year old brother weighs 5 pounds more than her!!! She is only in the 3rd percentile for height and weight. I think she is always just going to be very petite. At least Gwyneth is a girl too and it's okay to be a girl and tiny!!

    Blessings,
    Jenny
