J-E-L-L-Oh So Messy
JELL-O is not just a tasty and fun snack...it's also great for learning about new textures. Although she got it just about every else, I don't think she actually got any in her mouth (which, again, wasn't the point anyway).
Just a friendly tip of wisdom and experience...although blue is a great color (easy to see and brings our your daughter's beautiful eyes), we might go with yellow next time to avoid the 24-hour, blue-stained baby hands.

Hey Nate! If you can keep manage to wash her hands without her getting upset, use a little shampoo instead of soap. Sometimes, shampoo takes the color out of skin. It may not take it completely out, but it will fade it. Wet Ones wipes also help fade the color.

Ha ha! I was thinking that the whole time I was reading your post and enjoying the pictures. All I could think was, "And you just had to pick blue!" LOL! She'll just look a little like a Smurf for a few days, that's all. Just kidding! Either way, she'd be much cuter than Smurfette! :o) I bet the bib was stained a bit too. Thanks for sharing in your crazy fun!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the great idea, Rainy day here in Ohio again. Looking for something to do.. I think I will go and make some Jello, We may even put it on some cookie sheets and the kiddos can run trucks and cars thru it.

ReplyDeleteThe blue does look nice with her eyes!lol. I would also like to recommend that you do not try red. We learned that lesson last week. I cant wait to see if the cheesie police come out on this one too. lol.

ReplyDeleteI know the issues with her eyes is something you're working on. (I had similar issues with my eyes.) So while the fact that her eyes cross is NOT a good thing, I enjoy seeing how intent she's examining whatever it is that has MADE her eyes cross.

ReplyDeleteHaha! The first thing I thought when I saw the blue jello was...wow...bet that was tough to get out of...well...everywhere. Orange wouldn't be a bad color. Still stains, but it's light enough it doesn't really show. Same thing with green. Also, if ya wanna avoid ruining her clothes, a diaper and an old t-shirt are a great idea.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking that the whole time I was reading--been there, done that!!! I used to teach a workshop at children's ministry conferences titled: Let's Make a Mess! Geared at infant-kindergarten and it was soooo much fun and MESSY!!! Just what preschoolers LOVE :)

ReplyDeleteDarn, I never thought about giving my girls jello to experience as a learning tool when they were little. They would have loved that much better then me trying to shovel it into their mouths!!! You and your girls bring a smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteMy son sometimes has problems with textures (former 26 weeker). I never thought about JELL-O!! We do know he doesnt like dry rice and beans thoug...we might have to give that a try...outside! :)
ReplyDeletenext time use the Jiggler recipe on the box and she will be able to pick it up better and maybe make it to her mouth.
ReplyDeleteyou could always let her play with shaving cream after the jello to get her hands clean...old pre-school teacher trick :-)

ReplyDeleteIt's so odd to see how different color foods make the 'end' result different colors too! Blue frosting is quite amazing....and I mean that in the weirdest of ways :-). I think I'd like to play with blue jello too!

ReplyDeleteNate I wish we had been told to do this with our older son now 4 who had some sensory issues and didn't like to touch things that had wierd textures...wouldn't touch grazz etc. He is pretty much fine now, he still doen't like things that get messy (he won't eat a whoopie pie!) but I wish someone had mentioned these exercises to try when he was younger! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteSo cute!! Just wanted to wish Gwyneth best of luck on her eye surgery next month. I've had similar surgery twice at Wills Eye Hospital (I have Duane's Syndrome) to recenter my right eye and it's not too bad. Just feels like there's a bit of sand in your eye for a day or so afterwards. Hugs from a NJ family who visit the OBX every September. :-)
ReplyDeleteWait until your toddler is taken out into the back yard by older children who have received tattoo markers for Christmas and wanna open up their new "shop" with your kid as their first customer. It takes a couple of days for it to really be gone.

ReplyDeleteI used to let my kids 'finger paint' with pudding - If you use vanilla pudding & food coloring, she could try all sorts of colors! ;-)

ReplyDeleteHow fun! I used to do this with my early intervention students all the time. Of course, I felt horrible if they couldn't tolerate the texture but Gwyneth looked like she enjoyed the experience.
ReplyDeleteanother tip...I used to work at a day care and when we did Jello fun we got the kids into thier diapers. Then if you are at home you can just scrub her down. it will also save on any stains in the clothes!
ReplyDeleteMany years ago my son celebrated his 1st birthday with a Cookie Monster cookie covered in blue frosting. Not only were his face and hands stained, but his diaper contents were pretty funky for a few days!
ReplyDeleteWay too - I never thought of it for texture. I agree about it bringing out her eye color though :)
ReplyDeleteHave you seen goldfish crackers and cheerios (fish and bubbles) suspended in blue jello. You add the crackers after the jello has been chilled a little bit and starts to slightly thicken. She might need her to have some teeth first but it's adds a new element of exploration (fishing!) to the food fun.
