Thursday Morning Update

Some good news...Tricia was in serious pain immediately out of surgery, but after a few hours in the OR recovery ward, her pain meds finally caught up with her pain and she was able to be discharged to spend the night in our hotel after all!

After a good night's sleep, we were home by 2pm on Wednesday afternoon, just in time to tuck Gwyneth in for her nap. Tricia has had little to no pain since Tuesday evening and the mininmal bleeding has ceased. She will be on pain meds and heavy steroids for a few more days, which means she's feeling a bit loopy and having trouble sleeping for long stretches of time.

Of course, it's too early to identify any noticeable difference in her breathing, smell, taste, etc.

Thanks again for the prayer...Tuesday was a very long day and it was encouraging to know so many were praying for Tricia.

Nate

  6. I'm so glad the pain subsided some, and that you were able to head home! I'm sure recovery goes better at home, familiar surroundings, lots of love from the little one, and I can't wait to hear that she's 100% very soon!

  8. I join the other folks in cheering that 2010 will remain the year that Tricia has NO hospital stays! :) I'm also very glad to hear that her pain meds are helping so well, and that her bleeding has resolved. Sounds like she's going to make a fast recovery!

P.S. Blogger's ability to let folks sign in using OpenID is *still* malfunctioning. Just FYI. :( I'm still unable to sign in using my LiveJournal identity; some type of error always pops up and prevents me from continuing. (I never had this problem w/ Blogger until just the other week. *sigh*)

  10. Great news. I have a technical question. Why is it that lung transplant patients often need sinus surgery? What is it about lung transplants that cause that to be necessary?

  11. @Anonymous

People with CF tend to have sinus issues...lots of mucus and other stuff, which traps bacteria and germs, which can easily make their way down to the lungs. Because transplanted lungs are at very high risk for infection, it's standard to have sinus surgery to help clear the sinuses.

  14. God is soooo good - it looked like Tricia was calmly accepting a hospital stay - and then she didn't need to! YAY! I have had a couple of sinus infections, and they can be incredibly painful - anything to prevent that must be worth it! :-)

  18. My husband had the sinus surgery a year ago and we wondered how long it would be to notice a difference, too. It just takes a while for the swelling to go down inside but I bet she'll start to notice improvements in a few weeks! My husband can now smell and taste for the first time in 4+ years:)
