I filmed this just a few minutes after saying goodbye to Tricia outside of the OR before her transplant surgery. I've been meaning to show this to you. If you suffer from motion sickness, be warned as I filmed it with my Mac.
This is where Tricia spent about 98% of her time from Jan. 30 to April 2, 2008.
thanks for the tour...very interesting to see how you guys have been living!
ReplyDeleteNathan-
ReplyDeleteHow thoughtful of you to let us see where all of this has been taking place. Nice to put scenery with the people. Thanks for all of the selfless things you have done to make all of us feel welcome in your lives.
Kim
Thanks Nate!! That has got to be the most in depth tour of a hospital room I've ever seen!! ;) I'll bet after so long in that place, y'all needed a Uhaul for all the stuff!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a pt. decorate the privacy curtain. Great idea!!!
You're a sweetie, Nate. Thanks for including all of us in your journey.
(((((((HUGS))))))
God Bless you all

I really enjoyed seeing all of the unique little touches in Tricia's room. These are great ideas for others to use when they have loved ones in the hospital for long periods of time...just brightens the day a bit. Thanks so much for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI meant windchimes..
ReplyDeleteinteresting! thanks for the tour du jour!
ReplyDeleteThat's French, I think, for tour of the day!
(I know I live in a bi-lingual country, I try to listen with both ears but English tends to dominate!!)
Have a great weekend!

Nate,
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us see how Tricia and you had been living
Jan.30 until April 2.
I loved how you decorated the walls with important pictures and cards. Your Mac did a great job along with your help.
Thanks again, for sharing your life with us as a CF husband. I feel so blessed to have clicked on your blog months ago.
I am still praying for Tricia and I hope all of her pain is gone real soon. Praying that Gwyneth keeps putting on the lbs.
Have a great weekend.
It is so sweet that you posted this. I know you were probably trying to do anything to "stay busy" at that point... and may even have wanted to save those memories for Tricia and Gwyneth one day (or maybe not-heh!).
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I feel so blessed that you shared this with us.
Rebecca
Thanks for the peek! You're awesome. Tric is so lucky to have you...

Thanks for sharing the video. The love you have for your family, as well as the love so many have for your family, is quite evident in your room. So thoughtful of you to share it with us.
ReplyDeletePraying for you in Ohio.
You never cease to amaze me - I'm sure Tricia realizes how very lucky she is to have you. Of course, it works both ways. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove to all.
All I could think watching that was how long you ended up waiting to hear anything post surgery, lol. I cringe thinking about how you must have felt during that long wait.
ReplyDeleteWow. It must have taken so much stamina to live in that room for so long. The hotel might not be home, but I know it has to be like a palace to you guys right now.
ReplyDeleteAs I was watching that I was looking into your eyes and I could see the stress and worry. I know they look completly different now. Thank you for that tour. It was really interesting to see where you and Tricia had been living. I wonder what your hotel looks like. Is that just as cramped or do you have a lot of space? I am still praying for all three of you.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the tour! It's amazing how much things have changed... PRAISE the Lord! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, those green curtains are ugly. Did they even match the trim?
Very Nice!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Nate and Tricia,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting out of the hospital and be well!!
Love and Blessings,
Kimberly
Yeah Tricia out of the hospital and I got a free ride at disney world. thanks for the tour.
ReplyDeleteCool! And I just realized something... Tricia was discharged only 21 days after her double lung transplant. That is NOT a long time for such an invasive surgery!
ReplyDeleteBack in the mid 70's my dad's appendix ruptured, he was in for 20 days for that!
WOW...Tricia, you have hit the floor running!!! In my book, you ROCK!!!!
still praying for you guys!
Its so wierd at the things your mind spots right away. the first thing i really noticed was the creon on the window lol.. thanks for sharing your lives :)

What a blessing as I watched this to know that "That was Then, and This is Now". I could only imagine the anxiety in your heart that day and it was your birthday too. So thankful you are all doing so good and can't wait for the day you pack Gwyneth up and take her home with you. How blessed will it be to be a family of three back home?!
ReplyDeleteLove, Laurie in Ca.
That was so neat Nathan! I felt like crying though because you looked so very tired and anxious (I can only imagine how you must have been feeling right after saying good bye to Tricia).
ReplyDeleteHer room looked so very cozy and it was sweet to see all the pictures of your family and friends and your little daughter. :)
I can't wait for the day when you are all really home together!
Praying Daily for it!
love,
The Lockwoods
I am also Praying for you in Ohio.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see Duke Med uses the same feeding and IV pumps we do up here at SUNY Upstate (but not the same vents - that was some sort of alien contraption!)
ReplyDeleteThat was like MTV Transplant Cribs. Excellent.
Hope you and Tricia and Gwyneth are well!
I usually read your blog through Bloglines, but every once in a while I actually come here.
ReplyDeleteIt has been wonderful to see God's hand of protection on the lives of Tricia and Gwyneth! We've been praying for you ever since we heard about you.
Blessings,
Karen
Very cool Nathan!!! Thank you for sharing even more of your lives with us.
ReplyDeletethanks for the tour, glad this is no longer your home!
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe it is over, Nate. Just in awe over here in Florida. Shaking my head and heart overflows with gratitude. In awe!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time back together. Praying Gwyneth will be home with you both very soon.

Thanks for that Nate...brought back some memories for me...dh was in and out of the hospital for about 4-5 months before having surgery for Crohn's Disease.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Tricia is out of the hospital. Can't wait to hear the great news on Gwyneth's last days there!!
Very insightful! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why all hospital rooms look the the same. I did ask once and they told me the colors are calming. I think big funky murals of the beach, outerspace, fields, candy(chocolate of course), and the boardwalk are much more calming....whatcha think:)
ReplyDeleteGlad the scenery has finally changed.
We continue to pray for the day you all go home together(to OBX)!!! What an awesome day it will be!!!
love from hh, nj
Thank you for this. It's interesting to see where you and Tricia spent so much time together. I'm guessing down the road it will be a treasure for your family as thankfully the memories of the details of her room fade as new memories are created for your family.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tour of Tricia's FORMER room, Nate! Welcome to the rest of your life Tricia! I hope you are feeling good and getting lots of rest :) And of course sweet kisses to Gwennie.
ReplyDelete-Shannon in Austin
thanks for the virtual tour! i agree with the others, you looked quite anxious and preoccupied..im sure with thoughts of Tricia in surgery....so now do we get a tour of the hotel suite too?:-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting and thanks for the tour of the old room!
ReplyDeleteI thought he looked like he was about to cry..shock and elation will do that though!!! thanks for keeping it real Nate. You and your family is such an example of strength and courage.
ReplyDeleteNate... I give you so much credit for being able to tape that while Tricia was being taken in, but that just goes to show how strong and amazing you are. Thank you for the tour and letting us in on how you were staying. The pictures and cards were so nice and made the room so much brighter, but I am so happy you guys are finally out of those living conditions. Praying it stays that way!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless!
-Angela
I thought I could see traces of the unbelievable stress you must have been under. No surgery is risk-free, but you and your family had more risk to worry about than most. So glad Tricia's out of that room. Prayers continuing for the adjustment period and for all that PT for Tricia.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for sharing! You made the place as nice as you could for Tricia for that long time she was there. And.....woohooo....now she's out and heading the home direction!
ReplyDeletexxx
Umm, was I the only one who saw some sort of teenage Spanish music video when I clicked play? At first I thought it was just an odd opening to your video, but it ended up being the whole thing. I'll try again, but that was WEIRD!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's doing that every time I try to play it. Very odd. Has anyone else mentioned this happening to them?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour of Tricia's room! I love the curtain! :)
ReplyDeleteNathan, Tricia and Gwyneth,
ReplyDeleteI haven't posted a comment up until this point. I have been reading your blog each day to see how everyone is doing. Your story is not only a story of the dedicated and close family that you all have, but one of hope and love and patience and I am very inspired by your positive and seemingly calm perspective on the events happening around you.
Please know that my family and I will continue to pray for Tricia and Gwyneth's continued healing, and also for God to watch over you and give you peace knowing that all will be ok.

That was a nice but kind of sad video! I'm glad that part is over for you. It was sad because you were alone with all her things but she was gone. It is so nice you are all doing so well now!
ReplyDeleteNathan and Trisha,
ReplyDeleteStephen and I have been following your story and have been praying for all three of you since we heard. Your story has given us a boost of faith and perspective. You all will continue to be in our prayers.
Always,
Stephen and Danielle Virginia
