7 (More) Things

You may recall that I wrote a post called "7 Things" several months ago in which I listed 7 things (duh) about me that you may not have know. Well, here are 7 more things that you may not know about me.

1) I rarely drink caffeine. On my birthday in 2005, I decided to challenge myself to drink nothing but water for one month. I had some seriously major headaches the first week, but I actually did it (I confess I had a few bowls of cereal with milk), and I even decided to go an extra month past that. Since then, I only drink caffeine, maybe, once every few weeks, usually in the form of one of those chilled coffees. I do drink a lot of milk and juice, as well as a little uncaffeinated soda, but most of the time, especially with meals, I'll still drink water.

2) The only cat I like is Ralphie. I'm a dog person, and I never liked cats growing up. But, Tricia loves cats, so I got Ralphie for her as a gift our first Christmas. Ralphie is basically the most calm cat ever, which is nice. He and I have an understanding. Plus, he's Meka's best friend, so I basically have to like him.

3) Chocolate Chip Cookies are my weakness. If you find me dead with cookie crumbs near my mouth, you'll know I died happy.

4) I almost always wear something brown and/or blue. I don't know if it's because I have brown hair (when I have hair) and blue eyes, but I'm somehow subconsciously drawn to predominately wearing these two colors. I have, in the past few years, forced myself to purchase clothing of other colors, but still, browns and blues dominate my wardrobe.

5) I hate arriving late. I'm almost always arriving early, usually extremely early. Nothing ruins my day more than having a plan for a long trip and getting a late start. You can be late all you want...I don't care...just don't make me late.

6) I, like everyone else in the world (apparently) hate the "new" facebook. It automatically switched over on me the other day, and I haven't spent much time there since. I'm usually an early adopter to change, but cluttered websites (like the new facebook) just leave me confused and frustrated. And, no, I won't join your "24 billion people against the new facebook group", so don't ask.

7) I think that Giant Squids are the most fascinating creatures in the history of the world. And, yes, they do exist...and I'm pretty sure they could kill and eat you.

So, there you go. You are more intelligent now than you were 5 minutes ago (because I guarantee nobody knew all of those things about me), which is more than you can say about some blogs. Feel free to post you own 7 Things list on your own blog...I give you permission to steal from my genius...

Nate

  1. You should give the new facebook a chance! I've had it for a while now and I like a lot better than the old one. Once you get the hang of it, it's a lot easier to navigate. I felt like the old one was too cluttered!

  2. You're right, I did learn something. I didn't even know there was a new facebook. I spose I should crawl out from under my rock and check my page.

And seriously about the making me late thing. UGH! I'm sure you've got Tricia trained. But make sure you start EARLY with having Gwyneth pick out her clothes for church the NIGHT BEFORE!

  3. my facebook changed over a couple weeks ago. wonder if I'm just special? hehe. I didn't like it at first either (if you go to the top of the page you can switch it back to the old facebook btw)

  4. yeah, i used to be ridiculously early to things... we start to get ready for church quite early on sunday morning (me, my husband, 3 year old, and 7 month old). we literally live across the parking lot from our church and walk. sometimes we're still late... and i, like you, HATE being late... kids just make life complicated. have you noticed that?

  5. Well, actually, that was technically only SIX things I didn't know about you - some other time you posted about not drinking caffeine very often.

But I'll let you slide this time.

Hmm...I don't know if I've noticed Facebook's change. Then again, I rarely visit my page. I like blogging here better.

I'm not one who likes to be late either. Not that I am NEVER late, but I try to be on time. I'm with you, though - I can't stand when other people make me late.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

  8. Hi Nate! I liked reading your 7 things! I just started a blog yesterday. I'm not sure how it is-I have no exciting things to write about, other than the daily occurances, but feel free to visit it and tell me what you think:

  11. Thanks so much for those 7 things. I feel so....enlightened. Now I, too, can die happy! :) Just kidding! I'm totally with you on the new Facebook thing and on the Chocolate Chip cookie thing. Have a great day! Know too, that your beautiful wife and daughter are at the top of my prayer list.

  12. I, too, am obsessed with the brown blue combo (as evidenced on my blog page). It's a new thing for me though.
Do people really believe the giant squid doesn't exist? Weird.

Thanks for sharing a little more about you!

  13. i bet your WIFE knew those things about you, though...(you said nobody knew)
my hubby on the other hand, is ALWAYS late. i now know that i need to give him about a 30 minute to an hour advance notice if there's a time frame for something.

  14. Great post! I forgot you were on facebook. I'll go add you now! :)

  15. I am addicted to homemade chocolate chip cookies too. If I have a bad day at work, I come home and throw a batch in the oven. A deep, serious weakness.

    Ahhh!!

  16. We just watched a documentary on giant squids - it was one of the wildest things I had ever seen.

Regarding CC cookies - they are even more awesome when you put some Blue Bell Vanilla Bean ice cream between two of them! Yum!

  18. I'm so with you on being late. I would rather be an hour early (and sometimes am) than 5 minutes late. My husband is habitually late and the only time we run into an issue is when he makes me late too.

  19. I didn't know you found the giant squid so fascinating. I think they can pretty much shred a human with that beak-like thing in their mouth. It's funny how we knew so little about them until recently. I think they are just really misunderstood.

  20. My facebook changed a couple of months ago. I still hate it. You could initially opt to change it back to the old facebook, but I don't see that being an option this time. Yes. It truly sucks.

I also hate being late. I'm still late, depending which family member we're waiting for, but I hate it.

  21. 5) I hate arriving late. I'm almost always arriving early, usually extremely early. Nothing ruins my day more than having a plan for a long trip and getting a late start. You can be late all you want...I don't care...just don't make me late.

I TOTALLY AGREE. Did you see that Rob and I were at the Great Strides Walk at 8:15? It took some convincing on my part, but we went out to Wings and I forced us to stay away until 9:00 on the dot. It was VERY difficult. When we got there at 8:15, your whole team was putting up the tents.

  22. There's a way to keep using old FB is you have Firefox.

    First, install Greasemonkey:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

Then, install the script at this page:
    http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/33638

Abracadabra! It should work after you close/reopen your browser/tab. When you first start it, it might take a second to change the format, but after that, it will work fine.

  23. I "stole" from your genius.. haha.. thanks.

  24. I love the list and learning more about others. I am one of those people who hates when others are late. I am always there early waiting.
Now about the cookies. Oh yeah that would be the way to go :)
About that squid I think I would rather it be death by chocolate chip cookies.
    Hope your all doing well!

  25. I also hate the new Facebook! It is sooo much slower!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Would that be chocolate chip cookies WITH or WITHOUT nuts? Very important distinction to make. So, please, make it! Thanks.

  27. I don't like the new facebook either! I agree that it is way too cluttered. :)

  28. My 8 y/o would 100% agree with you on your #7!! He has to watch everything on it.

  29. You have such a great sense of humor! I especially enjoyed the cookie death image. :-)

Still praying for you guys. Thanks for posting. We really enjoy your blog!

  30. I despise the windows on facebook-I didn't know where I was at 1/2 the time in there. I like the "7things" so, that's a great idea for my blog I will do.

  31. Hey Nate-

I thought I would pass on another blog, maybe you could spot light to your readers. The Decker family had a premie baby and then Carol the mom had serious medical complications post c-section, that has now left her with double below the knee amputations, her hand and is blind. The family could really benefit from the POWER OF PRAYER!

I know that miracles can happen and that with the number of people who read your blog, we could lend them some of our faith.

  33. Just popped in to see what's up and let you know we are still praying everyday. Especially for the chemo treatments to work and for Gwyneth to grow and develop. Lord bless you guys.

  34. I love the new face book. I love that its taken away all the junk i.e. gardens, adopted pets etc. I like that it's put them into their own little compartments and I can really get to peoples walls a lot quicker! I'm actually more active there now because of the change :)

  35. Great blog! Chocolate chip cookies.... yum, yum!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I did a 7 also.

facebook...don't go on my account much...so I'm not sure I have a like or dislike relationship with it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree with you...I hate the new Facebook too...why go and change something that's not 'broken' right?! Anyway, maybe it has more to do with the fact that I'm never too keen on change.

Anyway...thanks for sharing your life and musings with us. Always enjoy the pics of your family.

  38. You are just as goofy as ever.

  39. I didn't have time to read through all the comments so maybe someone else has already pointed this out... That not being late thing could have been passed on to Gwenyth :)

  40. And one more thing! I have never had a facebook or myspace account but I am on Cafe Mom!! Like myspace for moms only!! Wonderful groups on just about every topic!! Tell Tricia to check out my page (user name jarboetwingles) and say hi :) A post on another mom's page is how I found your blog way back when there were only a few hundred of us following your story!!
