2008

What an incredible year. Some have said to us that they are glad it is coming to an end because of all that we have gone through, but we consider this past year to have been filled with amazing blessings, and we hope that 2009 is equally as blessed (although, maybe a break from the medical drama would be OK with us too).

As I write this, I'm also looking back on the last few posts of 2007, and I am, as I have been for several months, in awe of how far God has brought us. My Last Post of 2007 was a simple request for prayer for Tricia and the baby...I can distinctly recall the desperation and helplessness I felt that day, knowing that we would need more than one miracle...

Yet, that desperation also seems so far away, as I truly have experienced God's miracles and blessings in unimaginable ways. The birth of my daughter. The rebirth of my wife. And so many more.

Nearly everyday, we learn more of how God is using this past year of our lives to bless others, many who we'll never meet. So, while we wouldn't wish many of the events of this past year on anyone, we also wouldn't change a thing.

We have no idea what 2009 will bring. But, we do know for certain that God continues to hold us in the middle of His will.

So, my very dear friends,
don't get thrown off course.
Every desirable and beneficial gift
comes out of heaven.

The gifts are rivers of light
cascading down from the Father of Light.
There is nothing deceitful in God,
nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.

He brought us to life
using the true Word,
showing us off as the crown
of all his creatures.

James 1:16-18 (The Message)

  35. Nathan and Tricia, last night I kept thinking that a year ago today Burnie and I drove to Durham to pray with you for Tricia and then-as-yet-to-be-named darlin' baby girl. Today I thank God for every answer to every prayer.

  37. Nate,
You mentioned the Lockwood family on your blog a while back and I have been a reader and fan of her blog ever since. I was wondering if you check that blog regular and if you are aware of what is going on in this family. They are in need of our prayers, now more than ever.

Just thought you would want to know.

  40. Happy New Year,
I am sure that God has many more blessings in store for your family.

I am one of the many, whose life you have touched, that you will proably never meet. Your openness and honesty, have helped me to find my way, in a year that has been trying and difficult. While I do not see you as perfect or superhuman, you are an inspiration to me. If you can still find God amongst the trials you have been through, I to can cont to look for God in the difficult times in my life.
Thank you for the gift of sharing your life so openly with so many.

I hope some day to get to your church, as it looks to be a wonderfully joyful place to worship. If I lived closer, I would have visited by now!

  42. Nathan, I too am looking back at the blessings in my life. January 1st, 2008 I was on my way out the door to work at 630 (I'm an ICU nurse) when God turned me back. He sent me back inside to find my husband "Code Blue" on the couch. I started CPR, called 911, and prayed (not necessarily in that order). After a long 14 days (nothing compared to your lengths of stay) I brought my husband home. He has been restored, not to 100%, but he is good. My little boys have their daddy back, and I have my hubby back. It would be easy to look at the grim side...I choose to look at the blessings. I am humbled to have been a part of God's miracle. He shows Himself to me daily...sometimes in big ways, sometimes in a breath. My prayer for you, Trisha and Gwyneth is that you would have a new year filled with love, laughter and the contentment of our Saviors love. Blessings!

  43. What I love about looking over the year you've had is now and forevermore you will be able to look into the eyes of others with assurance and truly KNOW the grace of our great God! You can pass it onto others with confidence that you know HIS WORD is TRUE. And when you see others walking in their own valley, it will still bother you but you will have a quiet peace within knowing all will be well when they trust HIM. Praying for you still...
