> Gwyneth is completely over her cold. The cough is gone, and her sinuses are clear.
> I am over my cold, but still have a cough. Also, my tonsils, which get swollen whenever I have allergy or sinus problems, as still swollen and hurting...so much so that I'm snoring loudly and having sleep apnea problems (which I have had before)...I'm sleeping in the guest bedroom so that Tricia can get enough sleep. I've have an appointment with a doctor who says he can remove my tonsils (something I've been trying to have done for several years).
> Ramon and I have been busy tiling the past few days...we're about 1/3 the way there, and hopefully we can start with the laminate hardwood flooring this week. Don, Tricia's dad, started on the electrical stuff tonight. We're pushing to get in by Christmas, but that will take a minor miracle, especially since...
> We're excited to go to NJ next week to see some friends and introduce Gwyneth to the mayhem that ensues when the Kirschner family gets together for Christmas!
> My parents are flying to FL tomorrow to visit with Terry and Sarah (my sister). I'm jealous.
> Tricia's mom is sick, maybe with the same crud that Gwyneth and I had.
> I finished Tricia's Christmas gift today! She'll love me lots.
Goodnight!
Nate
Hope that doctor will be able to offer you some relief!
ReplyDeleteIt's taken me almost a year, but I finally got my post up about the little things we are grateful for. (You talked about this when Tricia was waiting for a transplant.)
What a year it's been though. :)
Thought I'd give you some advice & a heads up for your possible tonsillectomy. I had mine out 2 years ago and it was a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteEverything that could go wrong did and I wound up in the doctors office, ER, and finally a 4 day hospital stay.
Every doctor is different, but be sure to ask about the scabs coming off in the wrong places. (it sounds gross, but every doctor has their own ideas)
This may sound totally nuts, but I was on the tail end of a cold a few nights ago and did not want to take anything at night for my cough, a friend recommended smearing Vick's Vapor Rub on my feet. She said it would keep me from coughing. It worked. Don't know why. It may ease your symptoms until you get to the doc.
ReplyDeleteI have also heard two different adults accounts of having their tonsils removed and they said it was horrible.
ReplyDeleteOne person was so sick from an infection that I think she may have been off work for a couple of weeks. She felt her only resort was to have her tonsils removed. Afterward she said that the pain and agony of the tonsillectomy didn't even compare to her original illness. She literally thought she would die after the tonsillectomy.
I suffer greatly from sore throats and have to be very careful when I do get one because my throat easily swells shut. After hearing these stories however, I would not even consider a tonsillectomy.
You are a smart person and I know you will make an educated decision. The surgery could provide some great blog posts.
I feel for you and your tonsils. I had mine out earlier this year. As an adult it's a VERY painful recovery. Don't plan on doing ANYTHING (including swallowing) for a week. Unfortunately I still get sore throats but my snoring has improved, so I guess it was worth it.
ReplyDeleteI guess a few others beat me to it.... I was just going to tell you that I had my tonsils out a few years ago, and while I'm glad now to have them gone, it was not a fun time. It was very, very painful and just really threw me for a loop. If you do it, plan to be out of commission for a bit.
ReplyDeleteYahooo for Kirschner Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing it would be to get into the house by Christmas. We should pray for God to multiple time for all that needs done. Will also agree with you that God gives wisdom on the tonsil issue to take care of it once and for all. They debated taking mine out and said it was MUCH different for an adult to have them removed but God is big---praying He will be all you need through the experience.
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to peek into your world and watch the transformation of your new home.
Hi Nate, long time reader but I've never posted. I'm 23 and I got my tonsils out last year, I thought the recovery would be easy and quick but it took several weeks before I could eat ANYTHING, I lost over 20 pounds and sleep was impossible because of the deep inner ear pain since ears nose and throat are all connected! I was out of work for 3 full weeks and bed ridden because of the pain meds, I've never had issues recovering from sickness/surgery and I'm a very healthy person but I wouldn't wish a tonsillectomy on my worst enemy, I only say this because I wish someone had told me how bad it was before I got it done, even my doctor made it sound quick and easy!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, I've been prayign for you and you girls for a long time! :)

Oh my gosh, tonsil removal as an adult.. had it.. not fun... way not fun.. but it does make a big difference.. but definitely count on 2 weeks down. we grown folk don't bounce back with ice cream and a day like the little guys. Make sure to post when you are going to be going under so we can be in prayer for you.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels to the NJ and hope you have a fabulous celebration surrounded by love! Prayers for Tricia's mom to be well ASAP!
Looks like everything is moving along for the house. Sorry about the cold, I've had it too and it stinks but better now than at Christmas. Tonsils are such nasty little body parts...hope you can get yours out. I've not been nearly as sick as I used to get since I had mine removed. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteLOL...Everyone beat me to it. My brother in law just had this done for this very reason (snoring/apnea/infections). He was pretty much out of commission for a good 10 days and was miserable (well, we girls sorta thought he was being "man-sick" but now that I read the other comments, maybe not). He says it was worth it now so that's the good part. I know with all that Tricia's been through 10 days will hardly seem like anything though, right? Keep us posted so that we can pray, pray, pray.
ReplyDeleteGeez, I hope all these comments don't deter you. I seem to recall a needle phobia, right?
I had my tonsils out in April (I am 29) I had sinus surgery at the same time though. It is not pleasant for about a week and then again when the scabs fall off. I lost about 12 pounds! I would do it in a heartbeat as I have not gotten nearly as sick as I did when I had them in (had pneumonia three times last year!) Good luck, I think you will be glad you did it!
ReplyDeleteNate,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that everyone is feeling better and on the mend. My tonsils were removed when I was 5, and many years later when the doctor told me I had tonsillitis, I found out that they grew back. Hope your outcome is better:) As far as the minor miracle to be in by Christmas?
Umm, I have seen one miracle after the other in your family of 3 this past year!!! God doesn't run out:)
Praying for one here but if it doesn't happen before Christmas, it will happen. Love that your family is close to you.
Laurie
That Vicks Vapo-Rub on the feet is amazing.
ReplyDeleteGlad Gwyneth is feeling better. Hope the you are able to find some relief soon.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip next week with Tricia's family!
If you have sinus problems, which probably leads to your throat problems, get a neti pot. Also known as a sinus wash. Best thing for you and cheap. Only requires salt and water. Gets out all the crud. I avoid all sinus problems now that I do this. Can't hurt to try.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could go to a Kirschner gathering...you'll love it. I'm watching your home renovations.
ReplyDeleteThanks for continuing to update us.

Please be careful about your tonsils. It's much more difficult to go through as an adult than as a child. My friend had so many complications. Glad Gwyneth is better.
ReplyDeleteNate,
ReplyDeleteWill pray that your tonsil surgery goes well and there isn't to much pain. Recover quickly.
