There Was a Little Girl Who Had a Little Curl

Nearly two years old, and Gwyneth is still a curly blond. I was born blond, then it turned red when I was about her age, and then finally brown. Both Tricia and I have always had a few waves in our hair, but never as curly as Gwyneth's is turning out to be. We're hoping it stays that way.

Tricia's been ready to do the first hair cut since forever, but I just can't bear the thought of cutting those beautiful blond curls, even a little bit. All of her hair fell out when she was about 5 months old (see Here), so her hair is now about 18 months in length.

How long did you wait until you gave your first born girl her first trim?

  2. LEAVE THE HAIR ALONE TRICIA!!!!!

Ok, sorry. Had to say it! :) If it needs a little shaping up, that's on thing - but it's best to let it all grow out to one length now.
I only have two boys, but am expecting my 1st little girl in April.
My oldest (now 12yrs) had his first haircut at 14 months. He needed it before then but i just couldn't do it.
My youngest (he'll be 2yrs the day before Gwyneth) had his first haircut at 6 months - and again, needed it before then.
They were both born with a headful of hair and didn't loose any! Watch little sister be bald until she's 10!

Keep us posted on who wins this battle......

  3. I haven't cut ours yet! My Abby is 17 months old with wildly curly hair that requires a barette each day. I don't plan on cutting it for some time!
These were some of yoru best photos yet!!!

  4. oh my gosh... i couldnt' bring myself to cut my daughters hair (only a bang trim) but then of course her brother got to her and gave her a full on mullet hairstyle..so there ya go.
but no, I vote for keeping the goldie locks for a little longer :)she looks absolutely gorgeous.

p.s. I am transferring all my birthdays and such to my new calendar and I CANNOT believe Gwyneth is going to be two!
Thank you Lord for this day.

  5. My oldest had hair exactly like hers. Then we started cutting it and it is straight now. Keep her bangs trimmed out of her face but leave the pretty curls alone. Once you cut them off, they are gone. Trust me.

  6. Ahhhh! Don't do it :) I am scarred for life. I had perfect ringlet curls when I was little. My mom cut my hair and they never grew back. Of course- I've lived a full and happy life without them- but ya know :)

  7. She suddenly has a much more "little girl" instead of "baby" look in these pics!! Adorable!

Even my boys were 2 before we cut their hair....and all of my kids have alot of hair from birth (1-2"). Our girl just turned 2 in September and she has the curliest hair and has yet to have her first hair cut. I don't really have any plans to do it anytime soon...

  8. DON'T DO IT!!!!! My daughter (3) has corkscrew curls and we will never ever cut them. I hear stories ALL THE TIME about curls going away after the first haircut.

(Julia's hair has grown 8 inches in the past year and now sits at her shoulders - if it ever appears that it has stopped growing we will consider a trim to clean up split ends)

  9. I cut my firstborn daughter's hair (trimmed it up all the way around) when she was 18 months old. She had straight hair, though, not curls, so it looked scraggly when it was all uneven.

My second daughter's hair was not cut until she was 3 simply because her hair grew so slowly that she didn't need a trim until then!

My third daughter's hair was trimmed (bangs & ends) when she was 15 months old.

I like trimming the bangs & ends to keep things looking neat, but I prefer long hair on girls, so I don't cut it short until/unless they are older and request it.

  11. not now. her hair is beautiful. maybe this spring if you cut now you can't do ponytails or buns. you can always cut but cant glue on.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh my word, she's just so cute! Her hair is gorgeous. I wouldn't cut it either. :)

  13. My daughter will be three in March and we have yet to cut her hair. It is also blonde (my hubby and I are both brunettes but both our moms are blondes) and she was born with a ton of it! It is now down to the bottom of her back and is so beautiful. It has a few loose curls also. I can't bring myself to cut it even though I am the one to manage it every day. She normally needs it up in a pony tail of some sort to keep it out of her eyes.

I'm with you, Nate! I say don't cut it if you can still manage it well. It is so beautiful!

  14. We cut our Abby's curly hair a few months back when she was about 22 months and it totally stayed curly. If anything, it got curlier!! I am so glad we cut it though cuz it was way too out of control. She looked so much cuter with it trimmed up!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Our first daughter was three, then it was just a trim. Our now 29-month-old daughter still hasn't had her hair trimmed, and we probably won't trim hers either until she's 3 or so. We don't trim the bangs either, just pull the bangs up into hair ties every day.

    Gwyneth's curls are beautiful--love them!!

  16. Baby hair is usually fine in texture. My mom was a beautician and always snips the ends off the baby hair so it will grow faster. After all eight grandkids (four girls) I can testify that it works. So if you can just let them snip the very ends you will be rewarded in the long run.

  17. 4 years and then the curls never came back!

  18. (this is my first time posting here...I found your blog awhile back and really enjoyed reading it. I'm 3mo. into chemo for Hodgkin's lymphoma)

My boyfriend and his sister both had curls like that when they were little. My boyfriend's hair didn't get cut until he was in elementary school (he's still traumatized today from always having to shout "I'm NOT A GIRL!!"). His sister's hair wasn't cut until last year when she was 14. It's still curly, though a darker blond.
I think my baby curls were trimmed pretty regularly once I hit 3 or so. By age 6, my hair was perfectly straight. I'm hoping that when it comes back after my chemo, it'll have some curls.

  19. Gwyneth has beautiful full curls, I would suggest only trimming maybe her bangs so she doesn't lose the curl in the back. My daughter has long hair that is curly just at the ends its beautiful but I only trim the bangs, and have been doing that since she was just about a year old, she's 2-1/2 now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Two with my first and three with my second, however my girls did not have that much thick beautiful hair as Gwyneth and yes it is possible that the curls might not come back if you cut them. I actually thought my Three year old's hair looked so much better after I had it trimmed and it also seemed to grow much faster, once I got all off the dead uneven ends off. She is beautiful must take after her mother. Praying that the coming year brings you all much joy and many more great memories.

  21. Oh please don't cut that beautiful hair. :) Just my opinion though. She'll be gorgeous either way! I didn't cut Ellie's until she was about 3 to get the dead ends off. My niece Morgan was SUPER curly and once hers was cut she lost a lot of her curl. Not sure why that happens sometimes.

Put a barrette in it to keep it out of her eyes and let it grow! :) Tricia could just cut out one curl to have it to keep if that's what she's wanting. I did cut a swatch of each of my kids. You can't see it. Love you guys.

  22. We trimmed Madison's hair when she was just a few months old but she came out with a ton of hair. It never fell out either just changed color slowly. We did a huge cut when she was 3....6 inches. We have kept doing that on a regular basis. The other 2 got their first haircuts at 1. Madison's hair used to be super curly but the longer it got the less curly it got. Now it is just wavy and down to the middle of her back...it might be much curlier if I cut it off short but I am not ready to do that.

  23. I have three little ones. The two oldest are girls. I cut our first little girls hair when she turned two. I regret it every sense. She had the most amazing brown curls and when I trimmed her hair, the curls disappeared forever. She has the thickest, straightest hair ever now. It is GORGEOUS on her, but man .. when she was 2, it was curly as ever.
Our middle little one is another girl and I waited to give her hair a trim until just a month ago or so, she is 3.5 years old. She has beautiful blonde spiral curls. I barely trimmed anything, mainly bangs, and it is still bouncy with little spiraled curls.
My 3rd little one is a boy. The minute my husband heard "Three little girls???" he said enough was enough and I cut his cute little blonde flips of hair. He was 13 months old.

  24. I just cut my Jorja's hair this summer, she just turned 3. The only reason I cut it is becuz she would cry so much when we brushed it other wise we would have left it alone. My husband was not happy either.

  25. My first born girl is 4.5 and she has never had a haircut (except when she was 18m old and her 2.5 yr old brother cut the teeny tiny bit of hair she had pulled up in bow!). She did not really have any hair (like myself) until a good 2 years old and she still doesn't have very much. I wouldn't be able to stand cutting those cute curls on Gwyneth! :)

  26. ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE !!!

    She is so beautiful.

I'm not a poster - lurk a few times a month and just couldn't resist this post.

You are so blessed with this gorgeous family.

  27. My daughter was 2 when she got her first trim, which I did at home. I trimmed her bangs and the back straight across as well. She was five when I took her for her first real hair cut when she was five. She could sit on her pony tail at that point. She always had long hair till she was a teenager.
My granddaughter will be three in Feb.I cut her bangs so she can see and it looks cleaned up. Just snipping the ends.
I guess I like little girls with pig tails with bows.
So my vote would be keep it She is adorable Nate and Tricia.

  28. If you keep it longer get some Detangling spray. You spray it on let it sit and then comb through it. I know they hate to sit to have it fixed. Sauve has it although it smells like dutch apple. I know others make it as well. Just a Tip!

  29. We cut our daughters hair when she was just over 2...it was growing into a mullet and looked terrible! Her daddy was quite upset with me and was worried we would lose her curls but it actually made them bounce up more and she still has very curly hair! She's 9 now...

    ReplyDelete
  30. My only girl is 16 months and she has yet to have her hair cut.

I have to admit that I want to get it cut but daddy is opposing it because of the curls in the back of her head. They are cute but her hair is getting too long and it is everywhere.

I am sure my hubby will get his way and it will be awhile before it is cut.

    ReplyDelete
  31. She was about 13 months old when I first trimmed it, just so it would grow out evenly, but she doesn't have curls. :o) If she had, I definitely would cut it unless it was wildly uneven! She just got her first "real" haircut at the salon and she'll be 2 on Jan. 9th.

Gwyneth's hair is just gorgeous! I can't believe how 'grown up' she is looking these days, and what a little beauty!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Meant to say *wouldn't cut it* unless it was wildly uneven. whoops. :o)

  33. My "baby" girl (second born - first is a son) turned 3 on November 15th. She still hasn't had her first hair cut. Her hair seems to have grown in with beautiful natural layers and highlights - and I can't bear the thought of cutting it either!

    ReplyDelete
  34. gorgeous! Right before my daughter's second birthday she had her first cut. It grew in slow and I couldn't bear to cut for fear the curls wouldn't come back but they did! Springier than ever!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nate,

May oldest daughter is 2 and a half and her VERY CURLY hair is to her shoulders when dry and to her HINEY when wet. We still have not cut a single strand.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have a little boy with white blonde curly hair.. I didn't cut his until someone at the grocery store called him a pretty little girl :) He was 2 and a half.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Our first born (a girl, and actually - a Gwyneth!) is 12 months old and still has not had a haircut!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Our first born girl is 3.75 now and hasn't had a haircut. She had so little hair for the first 2 years of her life, that I can't bear to cut it. Even now her ringlets only reach her shoulders, so it's not as if it's shaggy. My husband reminded me that if I cut her bangs now, I'll be stuck doing bangs forever. So we're letting it all grow out and we'll see what we have on our hands/her head in a few years. No cutting happening here. :)

  39. She looks the most like her Mama in these pictures as I have ever seen her. So precious.

My daughter was 3 and a half. My son was about 12 months.

  40. Gwyneth has beautiful hair! Love it! I am so surprised that Tricia wants to cut it and you don't. We have the opposite problem in our house. : )

My daughter was born with a head full of hair and never lost any of it! She had brown curls and lots of them. She is 2 and has already had 4 haircuts/trims (she really needs another one, but I am putting it off). Her first cut was at about 11 months old. She had a really long tail in the back and was starting to look like she had a mullet. Something had to be done!

  41. I have 4 children, the youngest will be 2 in April. The other 3 all got a little trim at about 2yrs. Just to neaten it up. My oldest had hair like Gwyneth's but he's a boy and we had to cut it since everyone thought he was a girl!

Gwyneth looks so grown up in these pics!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I was bound and determined NOT to cut my daughter's hair. Her cousin, 9 months younger than her, took care of it for me though. With those child scissors that don't cut paper. Turns out they cut wonderfully well on hair.

They were 2 and 3 when this happened.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Quick...get your Bible...It is her crowning glory!
DO NOT CUT THAT GORGEOUS HAIR!

ok...please do not cut that gorgeous hair.

My daughter was 4 before I even trimmed the ends. She was in 6th grade before we actually cut it when she said she felt like IT from the TV show.

Rule of thinmb: If it is stringy, cut it, if it is beautiful do not... Gwynth fall's in the beautiful category!

If it begins to become painfully tangled use Johnson's No More tears by the case.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My daughter was two years three months old and my son was 4 months old. They had their first haircut together. My son was born with a full head of hair which he never lost and my daughter had peach fuzz for the longest time. I probably would have waited longer to cut my daughters hair if my son didn't need one so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  45. She's your precious baby, you can cut her hair if you want to. However, I love the curls and wouldn't cut them for a while. If it were me, I mean, or my girls. I might not even cut it on a little boy for a while. Unless people thought he was a girl.

    ReplyDelete
  46. We haven't yet given our 3rd born her first hair cut and she's due to turn 2 on the 9th of January. The twins were a different issue. Twin A, my daughter did not start sprouting hair until almost 2 so that was easy. Twin B, my son had lovely curly locks at the base of his neck and I loved them! My ex-mother-in-law however, did not. She harped until she could harp no more that he needed a haircut. It has never grown back the same as it was when he was little. He's now 11! My Twin A has super curly hair and gets hers done by a stylist who knows how to handle such types of hair. So for baby 3 we are hanging in there!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Tricia, why in the world would you want to cut of any of her golden curls? Please wait. . .please?

    Love to all.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Both of my kids took forever to get any real hair. Around 2 for first hair cuts and that was more of a trim.

Baby curls often do not come back after the first haircut, so wait as long as you can.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would wait! My mom said when she cut my hair by curls never came back.

Love the pictures - she is adorable!!! It is hard to believe she was once so very small.

  50. My oldest DD was 5.5 when she had her first hair cut. She donated 18 inches of braid to Wigs for Kids! She did it again at 8 years old, 16 inches to the same.

My youngest DD turned 5 in September, and she has yet to have a haircut! She's asking for one now tho, and the girls want to donate together.

My son was only about 10 months or so? I forget, but he cried and bawled at thebarber... never again! LOL! I cut his hair at home :D

  51. Ok, here's the deal; If Tricia's grandmom, Gwyn's great-grandmom, Halliwell was still around, Gwyn would by now have BANGS, cut very short. Just check out T's baby photos as well as Janet's, Meg's and mine. Enjoy those lovely
" strawberry - blond " curls while you can because the day will come, and all too quickly, when you, Papa, will have no say in her hairdo choices.

  54. My little one who was blond and bald until she was over two finally had her hair trimmed at 31 months. She still has hair growing in; so I have kept it trimmed hoping someday it will all be here :)

    Love those curls!

  55. What BEAUTIFUL hair! Dont cut it! Its gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I understand, I didn't want to cut my precious girls hair either. BUT, hers is POKER STRAIGHT and you could see very clearly how uneven it is. She was 22 months when we finally cut it. It was time to get rid of her mullet. :o)

I'd leave that curly hair alone. :o)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ummm Miss Tricia I know I don't really know you.. and shouldn't even voice my opinion on your beautiful adorable daughters hair.. but I love those adorable little curls.. can't she keep them a little longer..
Gwyneth is just too cute and those eyes, so pretty..
Thanks for sharing, have a great day!
    Enjoy!

  58. Two years, and then when we cut off her baby curls, her hair ended up being stick straight. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Just trim enough to shape it a bit. The longer it gets the more likely the weight will be to straighten the curl a bit.

I'm a natural redhead and my little granddaughter, Isabelle is a curly haired blonde like Gwyneth. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I didn't cut either of my girls' curly blonde hair until they were four years old. I just couldn't bring myself to do it! Wait as long as you can convince Tricia to wait :)

She also was born with curly jet black hair...and now is a natural blonde LOL(i was a natural blonde until i got pregnant and hubby is a natural blonde...we have 2 blonde headed girls and a boy that has a varely red tinted blonde)
leave the hair alone is what i say!

    ReplyDelete
  62. She is so precious!!! I had all boys & one was a curly mop & we waited past two - but then people mistook him for a girl - but a girl w/that gorgeous hair? if it doesn't bother her, let it go!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Don't do it! My 2 1/2 year old (almost 3) has the best curly hair. With 2 straight haired parents it's so fun to figure out what to do with it. I just can't cut those curls! And little pig tails and ponytails are so cute on little girls! So keep the curls!

    ReplyDelete
  64. It's way too beautiful to cut. If her hair is growing too long and getting into her eyes, consider pulling it back and fastening it with a hair clip.

    ReplyDelete
  65. My daughter just got her first haircut at 28 months (to be exact!) She was sporting this "baby mullet" that needed some serious attention!
My little boy (now 5) has curly blonde hair too and it took me forever to cut it because I was so afraid of losing the curls!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow, she looks just like Tricia! Amazing!

Haircuts didn't happen for our daughter until she was 2 1/2. She was pretty much bald until 18 months. Then my son needed a haircut at 8 months old. Go figure!

If Tricia wants to shape the hair or something like that, go for it. Gwyneth will look adorable no matter what! (It's fun to save baby hair too.)

    ReplyDelete
  67. She was 2.5 and I cut her bangs. Now I am banned from home haircuts (she resembled Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber). Gwyneth looks adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oh, god, no, don't cut them yet! They're gorgeous and nowhere near a length where they'd look messy or out of control. Wait awhile longer and enjoy them. You'll have many, many years to give her haircuts later :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Chloe had her first trim at 6 months. She has had 5 more since then. Her curls stayed so maybe Gwyneth's will too.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not until she was 3.

Love her curls! I think our daughter would have been even older if she had gorgeous curls like those....

    ReplyDelete
  71. Aww she has great hair! Don't cut it! It suits her so...

My son has had dozens of haircuts since birth because he never really lost his hair. At 18 months old it's really thick now.

    ReplyDelete
  72. My first one had striaght hair and we waited until she was 18 months. Our 2nd we waited until she was just over the age of 2. She had beautiful curls. We cut her hair and they never came back. So sad. Her curly crazy hair went with her personality.

    ReplyDelete
  73. She was at least four, maybe even five and even then we only took about 1/2 inch off. The curls one day were just gone though. He first real haircut at 5 1/2 was a desperate attempt to find them again (I thought the weight of her hair was pulling them out). I can still encourage them to reappear but it takes work and product. It was so effortless before.

No need to cut a child's hair at some set point.

Now my son, we shaved his head shortly after his first birthday. Little boys with long hair bother me (and he hated having it combed - the curls would snag).

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well, I can relate. My biggest memory is the first haircut of my firstborn who happened to be a son, not a daughter. He, too, had beautiful blonde curls, particularly in the back. I think he was about 18 months old when I reluctantly decided it was time for him to have a little boy haircut. I do warn you that we never saw curls again although we did keep his hair cut fairly short. So, do whatever the two of you agree upon. If it truly is going to be curly, more curls will grow. I personally think she is adorable without a haircut but I'm sure she'd be just as cute if it were trimmed, too!

    ReplyDelete
  75. She was three. The picture of her here is just before I cut it. Down to her waist and all curls. No bangs!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Don't cut the hair!!! :)
My oldest is going to be four next month. Her first trim wasn't until she was about 2 1/2. Her hair is down to her waist and she loves it long. My other daughter was two in September and has not even had a trim yet. It's all relative, but those locks are too adorable!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I wouldn't cut it... both my curls and my brother's went away with the first haircut. My brother's came back after he turned 25, but mine's only slightly wavy and only after it gets past my shoulders.

    ReplyDelete
  78. My girls were 3 or 4 before a real haircut was given. I kept their bangs trimmed so that they didn't get into their eyes, but that's it. I am so jealous of Gwyn's curls. I always wanted curls but have pin straight hair and would never hold a perm.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Aside for trimming bangs on one daughter, they both didn't have a true haircut until the age of 3 or so.... LOVE THE CURLS... I wouldn't touch 'em :)

  80. Her hair is absolutely beautiful and she is looking like such a big girl these days! Lovely photos by the way.

Our daughter had nothing but peach-fuzz for so long that we felt compelled to dress her in pink so that people would not think she a he. Once it started growing @ about 18 months we didn't want to ever cut it, except the bangs (which, alas, we cut too short a few times). She sure developed a luxurious head of hair once it started growing though.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think I trimmed our little girl's when she was a little over a year. But just little trims. Her hair is nice and curly, too. The back would get all nappy from sleeping and I trimmed it a few times just to get rid of the crazy frizz. I'm hoping the longer it gets, the less I have to do it.
My first little guy was about 10 months- but he's a boy and I wanted him to stay looking like one. My new little guy is 6 weeks and just about needs one now- but I'm not ready- it's just too cute. But unless it falls out soon, he's going to need one before too long.
I say unless it's too frizzy from sleeping on, just leave it. It looks really cute in the pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  82. What a little doll! I wouldn't cut the curls -- maybe just her bangs to keep them out of her eyes. My first born son had blond curly hair and even though he was a boy I couldn't make myself cut them!! By the time he was 2 1/2 I figured maybe I better because people who didn't know him thought he was a girl! Sigh!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. She looks adorable! I waited almost 3 year to cut my 1st son's hair! He has gorgeous curls and I just couldn't cut it!! My 2nd son had to get his bangs cut just recently at 18months cause he couldn't see anymore- but the back is curls and it is staying! :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. I vote to keep the curls. From someone who was almost bald at that age.

    Sooooo cute.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I also vote to keep the curls.
My oldest daughter was probably 4 before we trimmed it the first time. We always waited after that. My third girl had her hair really cut this past Sept..donating over 11 inches.
I like the hair long, but if it gets to be a problem with combing, etc, then it might be worth reconsidering.

  86. Both my soNs have amazing curly dark blonde hair. The younger is 22 months & hasn't had a haircut yet. The older had his first this summer, at 3.5 years old. I cannot recommend "Curly Girl" highly enough. That book saved my kids from a lifetime of hair frustration by teaching me the ways in which curly hair must be cared for differently than straight hair.

  88. My kids all got their first hair cut shortly after their 1st birthday however; it was just a tiny trim and more about the photo opt (and baby book souvenir) than the cut itself. If anything, trim up Gwen's bangs and leave those bouncy girls alone! :)

  89. We cut our daughter's bangs at 8 monthes but never got it cut until she was 5.Very long and wavy hair.

  90. Don't do it...EVER! People like me PAY for hair like hers! No cutting...My niece is 18 months old and we haven't touched it. I know the clips and ponys are a pain, but its sooooo worth it!!

  91. Mine is 3 1/2, and I haven't touched her curls.

  92. Kiv was about 15 months old...? and we only did the bangs...thats mostly what I cut when I cut her hair.

  93. Nathan, do not cute her hair. Look at Steve's and you will see why! Judith

  94. Honestly, it was so long ago (my girls are 25 and 23), but I do know my oldest had the curliest hair ever, like finger in a light socket curly. Thankfully, after many tears, and hair salons, found someone who could control the unruly curls, and then flat irons were invented!
I love the pictures, Gwyneth really looks like Trisha in them! Beautifu girls.

  95. My girls were both at least 5 before their hair was cut......long blonde curls, can't beat it!!

  96. My daughter is 8 1/2 yrs. Although I have trimmed her hair, even taking a few inches, she has never had her hair really, really cut. My son, on the other hand, had his adorable blonde curls cut off when he was 17 months old. Everyone said what a beautiful girl he was. :) And his hair is now dark brown like mine.

  97. What a beauty! Love those curls and blue eyes!

Our oldest didn't get her first haircut until she was almost 2.5 years old. She too has gorgeous curls. Now, we only "shape" it up since her little 5.5 year old self always asks for her "long curls to stay."

  98. I'd leave the beautiful curls alone. But it looks like the hair around her hair is more straight and it might look cute if it was shaped up a little. Elaine

  99. You don't have to cut all her hair off and get rid of the curls. That happens with boys not girls. Just shaper her hair up some and she will be fine. Make it a great occiasion, keeping some of the hair as a keepsake. Remember, you are only giving her a trim not a buzz cut.

  100. Be careful when you cut those curls. You may hurt their feelings and then they won't come back.

My little sister had the same blond curls, and didn't get her first haircut until the fifth grade.

  101. We waited till she was two. But with our second girl we only waited till she was one because it was such and uneven tangeled mess by the time she was one.

  102. My little girl is almost 3 and her hair is straight as a board. I LOVE GWYNETH'S HAIR...PLEASE DON'T CUT IT! I've trimmed up a few ends on Melody's hair just to make it a little fuller looking but no significant cuts. If you decide to trim it up, that's ok, but don't lose any length. (Nice how I'm talking like I actually have a say in this, right?!) :P

  103. I still haven't and she is 2 1/2! I just can't cut those curls off!!

  104. We just cut our little girls hair right after she turned two!

  105. About a month after her first birthday. She went through a phase where she would pull it when she got upset, so it was only long on one side...but, it's growing back in nicely! And of course we saved her little locks we cut for the baby book. :)

    See ya soon.

  106. Oh her curls are just beautiful!!!

My older daughter has stick-straight hair that never fell out after birth, and instead just grew long ONLY in the BACK - MULLET!!!! So, at about 8 months old we had to do away with the mullet. ( http://lavitabella-tramma.blogspot.com/2008/03/first-haircut.html ) Then another trim of the same variety after her first birthday. Her first real, full haircut was just after 2. It turned out adorable. I don't plan on cutting my second daughter's hair anytime soon, as it's barely growing in!

  107. Mel- Momma to three girls and a boy!January 1, 2010 at 9:06 PM

My first was 3 and had hair halfway down her back.
My second cut her own hair twice before her third birthday and it's finally down to her shoulders for the first time, she's 4!
My third is will be three in June with curly hair and I can't imagine cutting it!

  108. Don't cut her hair!!! My oldest had the most beautiful ringlets and I couldn't stand the thought of cutting them off. I waited until she was 4 before I finally had her hair cut. Her hair was so long and heavy, the ringlets were just about gone. Now that she's 7, the ringlets are gone and all that's left is a little wave. Hold on to those curls as long as you can!! =) Gwyneth is sooo adorable!!

  110. Our eldest, Elizabeth, was 10 months when we trimmed her bangs by about a half inch. Otherwise, her next haircut was at 3 1/2! We couldn't stand the thought of losing those golden curls, either. Good news is that her hair seems to be staying curly, though! Our younger daughter Catherine has had about ten haircuts and she's only 2 1/2. Straight brown shaggy hair and always in her face!

  111. Those pictures of her are adorable! What a cutie!

I just trimmed my daughter's hair, and she's going to be 3 in February. My husband was so mad, because it took her forever to grow hair!

  112. If you guys want it to stay curly, you probably shouldn't cut it--we had a curly top girl and I loved her curls. We cut it the first time (first big hair cut was probably 3 y/o) and now she has basically straight hair. It waves minimally now and I miss her curls. :(

  113. i just gave my first born daughter her first haircut 2 weeks ago. She was y ears, 9 months old.

  114. Nate, it took me two and a half years to cut our youngest kiddos curls...and then it was a slight trim! I've been reading and following for the better part of two years but rarely comment, always pray. Hopefully the comments will be more plentiful and the prayer will continue to be felt :)

  115. usually trimming the ends will make it healthier (not that it looks unhealthy) and it will take some weight off so it will stay curly.
