Goodbye, Sweet Emily

Less than two days after Tricia and I watched Eva's online memorial service together, we received the news that our beautiful friend, Emily Haager has also past away.

We had the honor of meeting Emily a few summers ago...I'm pretty sure she and her family are the only people in the world who travel every summer from the west coast of the US to vacation on the tiny island of Ocracoke, NC. Last summer, Tricia and I made it a point to spend the night in Ocracoke while Emily and her family were here. We had a great time with Emily and the Haager family, and we were looking forward to seeing them again this year.

Here is a video that explains part of the legacy that Emily leaves behind for her family and friends, and the entire CF community.

I know Emily's family would appreciate your prayers today. Tricia and I would also appreciate your prayer. It's been a tough winter for Tricia and the CF...we have lost so many friends to Cystic Fibrosis.

Nate

I had been keeping up with Emily thu her care page and praying during her hospital stay this last time. Emily fought a valient a very fight, she had so much life and fight in her you could not help fall in love with her. I am happy to know that Emily has her total healing with Chirst, but my slefish human side whishes she could still be here.

Wonderful post Nate. It seems like CF has been so much harder this Winter. The world is definitely a little dimmer without Em in it. My prayers are with the Haager family.

So sorry to hear of this. I was watching Eva's memorial too. This is the third CFer that I've been praying for that has passed away this year...Jess Wales, Eva and now Emily...

Will be continuing to pray for Emily's friends and family.

Praying for the Haager family today...and also for you and Tricia, as you deal with these losses of people in your larger CF family. May God comfort you in ways that only He can do!

Another CF double lung transplant patient died March 19th - 7 days before his 30th birthday. When he was born the doctors told his dad that he wouldn't live past his teens. He surprised us all by living to be 29! Go Buster!! He got sick with the flu in November and went downhill pretty fast. He enjoyed a year or so symptom free.

Hugs,

Carla

I am so sorry for the loss of Emily. I know that it must feel extremely close and personal for you. Please be encouraged. Through you and Tricia I began reading about and praying for these two extraordinary women. More attention is being brought to a very serious health issue that I had no idea about until there was you. Thoughts and prayers for all who have been touched by those who have passed. Destiny

Grieving along with you for the loss of dear Emily. What a witness for Christ she and her family have been, as are you and Tricia. May the words of Jesus when He said, ". . . be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world" comfort and sustain you.

What a great video!
I am amazed at how positive CF patients often are.
They have an amazing journey.
Keep us health care providers humble!

Emily was a special person. She and I exchanged a few e-mails. My daughter is also an Emily with CF. Emily H. took the time to tell me that she LOVED Em's name, and she gave me some great advice. She reminded me how important it is that my little girl grow up "normal" and to not put restrictions on her activities. She reminded me to see the child not the disease. I return to her message when fear gets the better of me. I will miss her.

Another CF'er, Sonia, passed away the same day Emily did. Tricia may remember her as "Ladybug" on cysticfibrosis.com. Both ladies were remarkable young women. Please keep Sonia's family in your prayers, as well.

It has been a rough winter/spring. I want this disease to be gone.

How odd to come across this blog this morning. I was looking at our local newspaper this morning and saw a memorial to my oldest son's classmate that passed away 15 years ago from CF. I met her grandmother, just by chance, and saw firsthand the toll Renee's death took on that family. I was very touched by your story and your family is now in my prayers. I am so blessed to have the healthy grandchildren that I have been blessed with. NanaDiana
