Walking vent-free!

Today Tricia walked the halls without any breathing support at all (no vent, no cannula) for the first time since October! She breathed totally on her own through the trach. This is a big step for her to move out of ICU to the step down unit. To do that she has to be totally off the vent. So, maybe tomorrow or Tuesday that will happen. The sooner the better!

Gwyneth's next eye exam is Tuesday. By then they'll know if the laser procedure two weeks ago did the trick and stopped the ROP. She continues today alternating her feedings between a bottle and the feeding line.

I can't imagine getting up and walking so soon after such an invasive surgery. A few years ago I broke a couple of ribs and remember how painful it was just to move at all. Tricia's tough!

That is awesome news. I would have to think that this is all a huge adjustment to Tricia's body. I was thinking about how if I get down with the flu and have to lay here for a few days and then getting up again takes some work. The flu is minor in comparison. Tricia, you are strong and a major blessing. Nathan, I hope your feeling better. I know your body had to be worn out. I am asking God to bless you. Thank God that He is right beside you and holding you all 3 in His arms.
HUGS to you all,
Christy in KY

We've been captivated by Nate and Tricia's story since January. We are thrilled with each medical success but most of all we are so encouraged to read how this amazing young couple handles it all with God's strength. I'm glad that Nate is enjoying a break to concentrate on his girls health and we're thankful that you have taken up your own time to keep all of us updated in the interim. Blessings on you all.

Rick, I'm not sure if I missed an earlier post, but I was wondering what exactly the surgeons had to do to get to Tricia's lungs. I know what they do for open heart surgery. Is it the same or more for lungs? Once everything settles down (I guess in a year or two!) I would love for Nate or you to share a brief review on the logistics of the surgery...just what they had to do to Tricia.

Still praying...
