(Bump) Contest 01

The contest is over! I'll announce the winner of March 8, 2008.

You can help select the song that I will use for Gwyneth's 2 month birthday video on March 8! You give me your suggestion, and I will choose the song I like best. Winner gets nothing more than a "thank you" and their name/handle posted on my blog!

Here are the rules of the contest:

1) Each person only gets ONE entry, so make it a good one. It can be serious or silly...I promise to check out each suggestion. If you give me more than one song, I'll delete your post and you'll be disqualified from the really awesome prize.

2) No Country Music.

3) No songs with cursing or explicit content.

4) No songs about elephants or paper clips (because I said so). :)

5) Give me the title and artist so I don't have to go searching all over to try to find it.

Have fun!

Nate

Things We've Handed Down, by Marc Cohn.

The lyrics are amazing, make sure you listen to the whole thing, not just an iTunes clip.

Ok, I had posted one, but then read through and it had been posted a few times, so I changed my vote to

"The Rose"...many ppl have done it from Bette Midler to Westlife...choose your artist. It may seem like a sad song, but I think its a song of ultimate hope.

Here's the lyrics to the 2nd verse:
When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winterfar beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose

Y'all have been through a lot, and I think Gwenyth is definitely the start of your "spring"...she is your rose!!

Okay...everyone seems to be leaving serious answers. (so predictable) Just in case you were planning to go for a more upbeat number my suggestion is...

My Hairbrush. Veggie Tales.

For a baby that young with that much hair...it just seems to fit. : )

"The Rose" by Bette Midler

Anonymous said...

There's a song that was done in the 70's or 80's and re-done in the mid 1990s by Bette Midler (don't delete just yet!) I think it's just called the Rose...

Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose

Maybe not the greatest birthday celebration song, but thought you might be able to use it later somehow?
i know i know, Bette Midler! But, find it on YouTube or something and give it a listen. if you hate it, you hate it... but i can see how several of the lyrics so parallel what you are so gracious to share with all of us strangers the journey you and Tricia have so steadfastly chosen.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I am honored to pray for your family many times throughout each day.

I vote for a new song by Jack Johnson called "Angel" here are the lyrics...it's a beautiful song...(for both the beautiful girls in your life!)

I've got an angel
She doesn't wear any wings
She wears a heart that can melt my own
She wears a smile that can make me wanna sing
She gives me presents
With her presence alone
She gives me everything I could wish for
She gives me kisses on the lips just for coming home

She could make angels
I've seen it with my own eyes
You gotta be careful when you've got good love
Cause the angels will just keep on multiplying

But you're so busy changing the world
Just one smile can change all of mine
We share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
We Share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
We Share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
Umm umm umm uhhhhhhmm

Can't wait for the new video.

I don't know who sings the song but the title is "In My Daughters Eyes" here are the lyrics.
In my daughter's eyes, I am a hero.
I am strong an' wise,
And I know no fear.
But the truth is plain to see:
She was sent to rescue me,
I see who I wanna be, in my daughter's eyes.

In my daughter's eyes, everyone is equal,
Darkness turns to light,
And the world is at peace.
This miracle God gave to me,
Gives me strength when I am weak.
I find reason to believe, in my daughter's eyes.

An' when she wraps her hand around my finger,
Oh, it puts a smile in my heart.
Everything becomes a little clearer.
I realise what life is all about.
It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough;
It's givin' more when you feel like givin' up.
I've seen the light: it's in my daughter's eyes.

In my daughter's eyes, I can see the future.
A reflection of who I am,
An' what will be.
An' though she'll grow an', some day, leave:
Maybe raise a family,
When I'm gone, I hope you'll see,
How happy she made me,
For I'll be there, in my daughter's eyes.

"Somewhere in the World" Wayne Watson

Somewhere in the world today
A little girl will go out ot play
All dressed up in mama's clothes
At least the way that I suppose it goes
Somewhere in the world tonight
Before she reaches to turn out the light
She'll be prayin' from a tender heart
A simple prayer that's a work of art

And I don't even know her name
But I'm prayin' for her just the same
That the Lord will write His name upon her heart
Cause somewhere in the course of this life
A little boy will need a godly wife
So hold on to Jesus, baby, whereever you are

Somewhere in the world out there
That little girl's learnin' how to care
She's pickin' up her mamas charms
Or maybe, swigin' around in her daddy's arms
Somewhere in the world to be
Through the future's not real clear to me
Theirs could be a tender love
Grounded in eternal love above

Here's my vote: "God gave me you" by Bryan White. I know it's a little country, but it sure does sum up how it feels to become a parent.

For all the times I felt cheated, I complained
You know how I love to complain
For all the wrongs I repeated, though I was to blame
I still cursed that rain
I didnt have a prayer, didnt have a clue
Then out of the blue

God gave me you to show me whats real
Theres more to life than just how I feel
And all that Im worth is right before my eyes
And all that I live for though I didnt know why
Now I do, cause God gave me you

For all the times I wore my self pity like a favorite shirt
All wrapped up in that hurt
For every glass I saw, I saw half empty
Now it overflows like a river through my soul
From every doubt I had, Im finally free
I truly believe
In your arms, Im someone new
With every tender kiss from you
I must confess, Ive been blessed

If this comes up twice, I am sorry!!

I am not sure if this will work for your next video, but check out the website www.mediak.com. You can make a personalized CD for Gwyneth. My favorite CD is called Jesus Loves You. For example the song Jesus Loves You is on the CD and it is sung, "Gwyneth, Jesus Loves You" instead of "Yes, Jesus Loves You". It is a very cool CD that I have purchased for several little ones that absolutely love to hear their name in a song.

to keep you safe and warm
the starfight
in the heavens high above you
will light a path
to find your way back home
sleep tight

(...)

let go
your tiny hands
and drift away
to a bright enchanted land
I promise you
your sweetest dreams will come true
now leave this weary world behind

so close your eyes
and wish upon the brightest star
cause when you dream

The morning sunrise spread her wings
While the moon hung in the sky
Held the sea in your hands
And happy everafter in your eyes

Couldn't leave you to go to heaven
I carry you in my smile
For the first time my true reflection i see
Happy everafter in your eyes

Every star in the night
Promises the dawn
I will be there if you fall
To ever so heavily rest upon

All that i can give you
Is forever yours to keep
Wake up every day with a dream

Songbird by Fleetwood Mac

For you, therell be no more crying,
For you, the sun will be shining,
And I feel that when Im with you,
Its alright, I know its right

To you, Ill give the world
To you, Ill never be cold
cause I feel that when Im with you,
Its alright, I know its right.

And the songbirds are singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before.

And I wish you all the love in the world,
But most of all, I wish it from myself.

And the songbirds keep singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before, like never before.

WooHoo! Nobody has suggested mine yet... (except for me on another blog!) It's called "The Story" by Brandi Carlile. Based on music you've used before, I really think you will like it.

THE STORY (lyrics)
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you

I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
Yeah you do and I was made for you

You see the smile that's on my mouth

Is hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what I've been through like you do
And I was made for you...

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you

Oh yeah, it's true... I was made for you.

And the video so you can hear it for yourself...

Here are the lyrics to "Ordinary Miracle"

It’s not that usual when everything is beautiful
It’s just another ordinary miracle today

The sky knows when its time to snow
You don’t need to teach a seed to grow
It’s just another ordinary miracle today

Life is like a gift they say
Wrapped up for you everyday
Open up and find a way
To give some of your own

Isn’t it remarkable?
Like every time a raindrop falls
It’s just another ordinary miracle today

Birds in winter have their fling
And always make it home by spring
It’s just another ordinary miracle today

When you wake up everyday
Please don’t throw your dreams away
Hold them close to your heart
Cause we are all a part
Of the ordinary miracle

Ordinary miracle
Do you want to see a miracle?

Its seems so exceptional
Things just work out after all
It’s just another ordinary miracle today

The sun comes up and shines so bright
It disappears again at night
It’s just another ordinary miracle today

It’s just another ordinary miracle today

As long as you'll accept songs sung by vegetables, I would like to recommend "Think of Me" by Junior Asparagus of Veggie Tales. It's on the "Junior's Bedtime Songs" CD and it's a sweet song, it's one of my sister's favorite songs to sing to her son.

Al Martino - Daddy's Little Girl

You're the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold,
You're daddy's little girl to have and hold.
A precious gem is what you are,
You're mommy's bright and shining star.

You're the spirit of Christmas, my star on the tree,
You're the Easter bunny to mommy and me.
You're sugar you're spice, you're everything nice,
And you're daddy's little girl.

You're the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold,
You're daddy's little girl to have and hold.
A precious gem is what you are,
You're mommy's bright and shining star.

You're the treasure I cherish so sparkling and bright,
You were touched by the holy and beautiful light.
Like angels that sing a heavenly thing,
And you're daddy's little girl.

When I see you smile - Bad English

That song got me through many nights and days in the hospital with my youngest child. His smile was all I needed to get through, and I never realized how incomplete my life was until he was born. I think of the picture of Gwyneth looking at you without the vent or c-pap, the look of trust and sheer love is there in her eyes. It's a look every parent gets and can't live without once you have it. The same look you see in your and Trish's eyes when you look at that little sweetheart.

God has surely blessed you and Trisha with such a sweet angel to love you and be loved by you. Always remember He handpicked YOU to be parents to that beautiful and special girl.

Love and Prayers,

Mike, Jeni, Hannah, Megan and Jack

YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION by COPELAND

"You have my attention
Like you’ve had all the while,
Since that first day when you made my heart smile,
With loving eyes and tired sighs that follow.
You have my attention
Like a shout through an empty sanctuary.
Speak but a whisper;
I’ll hear a sermon"

All-4-One Beautiful As You
I'll send you a facebook message. (Jennifer A.)
From the moment I saw you
From the moment I looked into your eyes
There was something about you I knew, I knew
That you were once in a lifetime
A treasure near impossible to find
And I know how lucky I am to have you

Cause I've seen rainbows that could take your breath away
The beauty of the setting sun, on any given day
And when it comes to shooting stars I have seen a few
But I've never seen anything as beautiful as you

I can't believe that I have you
I can't believe that you're here in my arms
I've been waiting a life time for you, for you
And I've dreamed about you
Pictured in my mind who I would see
But I never imagined just how beautiful you'd be

Cause I've seen rainbows that could take your breath away
(take your breath away)
The beauty of the setting sun, on any given day (any given day)
And when it comes to shooting stars I have seen a few
But I've never seen anything as beautiful as you

I've seen rainbows that could take your breath away
(take your breath away)
The beauty of the setting sun, on any given day
And when it comes to shooting stars I have seen a few
But I've never seen anything as beautiful
But I've never seen anything as beautiful as you

From the moment I saw you
From the moment I looked into your eyes

"Small Enough" by Nichole Nordeman.

The whole idea of this song is that God is BIG enough to handle the mighty acts of the Bible--yet small enough to cover our needs.

P.S. Somebody else mentioned a great song called "Arms Wide Open" by Creed. They accidentally wrote "Arms With Open", and I wanted to let you know the real title, so it's easier for you to locate.

Maybe you can one day compile all of these songs into a very special soundtrack for your sweet girl.

Gwyneth, all of these songs were dedicated to you from people who love you--and many who haven't ever met you!

I hope you dance by LeAnn Wolmac

Here are the lyrics:
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I like Father and Daughter by Neil Simon but if you want a song that is a little faster there is always:

Ooh Child by The Five Stairsteps

Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll get brighter
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child, things'll be brighter

Some day, yeah
We'll put it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter

Elliana’s Song by Watermark
Baby woman, tiny in stature now
But your heart is a treasure
Little princess come follow behind me now
I am reaching for you
(chorus)
Elliana, God has answered my prayers
Elliana, God will conquer my fears
To mother a daughter, to look you in the eye
To know that I had everything, to walk with you in life
To give you to Jesus that He would impart
The wisdom that I’m longing for to mother your heart
Elliana, God has answered my prayers
There will be others to lead and to guide you girl
But only one you’ll call Mother, the honor is all mine
To show you what a woman’s like
I’m so glad you’re mine
(chorus)
Tenderness of God is twirling around
In our living room tonight
Lighten up your daddy’s eyes
And know that he just wants to freeze you in time
(chorus)

I put together a dvd of my children growing up with this song in the background. Everytime I watch it I get tears in my eyes. The song just reminds me of them children growing up, my own little garden. The song was on the Peter, Paul and Mommy Too cd. I hope you can find it so you can listen to it.
GARDEN SONG
(David Mallett)
Peter, Paul, & Mary

Chorus:
Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe and a piece of fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row Someone bless these seeds I sow
Someone warm them from below
Til the rain comes tumbling down

Pullin' weeds and pickin' stones,
we are made of dreams and bones
I feel the need to grow my own cause the time is close at hand
Grain for grain, sun and rain I'll find my way in nature's chain
Tune my body and my brain to the music of the land

Chorus

Plant your rows straight and long,
Temper them with prayer and song
Mother earth will keep you strong if you give her love and care
An old crow watching hungrily from his perch in yonder tree
In my garden I'm as free as that feathered thief up there

Chorus

Ronnie, mom of two grown children

From the Amy Grant Rock of Ages CD, I would suggest "Carry You".

Lay down your burden,
I will carry you,
I will carry you...
My child, my child

I can walk on water,
Calm a restless sea,
While you struggle on your own,
Call my name and I'll come
...

I don't listen to Amy Grant much but this particular song reminds me of just Who is in control of my life. What a saviour. I have to be willing to lay down my burdens.

Warmly from "S. Jersey"

We sang this the Sunday after Gweneth was born at church. The song title is Grow Lovely Rose and it is sung unacompanied with 4 part harmony, but it has a piano part. It was written by Gordon Young. I have a copy of it that I will mail to your Dad.

Grow lovely Rose, grow there for me
Thou art my true, my saving Tree
Sprung in the winter, mid winter's snow
blooming forever here below

Grow lovely Rose in Thee I see
All men's salvation, flowing free;
Hope of the helpless, friend of the weak
Thee O my Savior, help me to seek.

Now we poor men, from sin set free
praise thee forever, O may we be
ever more loving, gentle and kind
every more loveing, gentle and kind
every more loving, gentle, gentle gentle and kind.

Tricia prayed for Gwyneth and loved her long before she was ever born or conceived.

Some of the words...

Than the one who gives his life to prove
That he would do anything
And that's what I'm gonna do for you"

Tricia did that for her sweet little girl, Gwyneth.

"Baby Close Your Eyes" by Celine Dion- It's a beautiful lullaby:

sun is creeping down
behind the hill
everything is calm
everything is still
so baby close your eyes
and rest your weary mind
let me hold you close
I'll sing you this lullaby
let your worries go
you fall asleep
think of nothing more
memories will keep
your dreams will turn to gold
and you will wake and find
that you hold a smile all day
from this lullaby
maybe somewhere in the silence
you may wake and you're all alone
just call and I'll be there
even when I'm gone
each day will end
so I'll say good night
till we meet again
now baby close your eyes
and rest your weary mind
II'll let you know the joy you bring
every time you hear me sing
you this lullaby
