Fast Track (Updated 11.1.10)

So, I figured for those of you who are just joining us and don't have the time or desire to spend the few hours that it would take to read through every post here, this is a good way to learn all about us in just a few minutes.

My name is Nathan Lawrenson (most people call me Nate). On June 27, 2004, I married Patricia Suzanne Kirschner (everyone calls her Tricia), and we began our crazy life together. Up until September of 2007, we had been living in Nags Head, on the Outer Banks (OBX) of NC for two years with our dog, Meka and our cat, Ralphie.

Tricia has Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a terminal, genetically inherited disease that especially affects the lungs. When we were married, she was showing outward signs of the deterioration that her CF was causing to her body, and, with the support of her medical team, we quickly began trying to start a family, knowing that our window of opportunity was small.

In May of 2007, after a few unsuccessful years of trying to become pregnant, Tricia’s disease had progressed to the point at which her doctors strongly advised that we stop our efforts to conceive and consider undergoing the evaluation process for the double lung transplant that could save Tricia’s life. Trusting in our doctors’ wisdom and in God’s control, and coming to terms with the fact that we would never be able to have our own children after that point, we took their advice.

Yet, all this time, since before we were even married, Tricia had been praying a secret prayer…it was even a secret to me. Tricia had been praying for a miracle baby.

In July of 2007, Tricia went through the week long evaluation process at Duke University Medical Center to determine if she was a candidate for a transplant. She was a candidate, and we began making plans to temporarily move to Durham, NC to be close to Duke.

In early September, the day before Tricia was to begin the physical therapy that would prepare her to be placed on the transplant list, we found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant. Against the advice of many of our doctors, we chose to keep the pregnancy, having been told that both Tricia and the baby had less than a 50% chance of surviving.

From September through December, Tricia participated in physical therapy five days per week to keep her body in the best shape possible, all the while growing sicker and more dependent on oxygen. On December 27, Tricia went into the hospital for what we hoped would be a short stay. The short stay turned into a long stay.

Because of her deteriorated health, Tricia was moved, on January 3, 2008, to an ICU room. During this time, Tricia was getting less than one hour of sleep per every twenty-four hours. The baby was just under twenty-four weeks old (gestation) and doing as well as possible.

On January 8, Tricia was taken to the OR where she was sedated, given a tracheostomy and placed on a ventilator, with the hope that she could carry the baby for a few more days. The trach and ventilation went well, but Tricia was too unstable to return to the ICU, and the decision was made to perform an emergency C-Section right there in the OR. There were no less than 75 medical staff with Tricia in that room that day.

Gwyneth Rose Lawrenson was born that day at 24 weeks and 4 days gestation, weighing just under 1 lb 6 oz and measuring 12 inches long.

Following Gwyneth's arrival, Tricia was placed in a medically induced coma for nine days. She was slowly weaned off the paralytic and sedation meds until she was fully awake and aware of all that had taken place.

Tricia remained on the vent in the hospital for over four months as she slowly regained some of her strength. On February 22, less than seven weeks after giving birth, Tricia was listed and activated on the double lung transplant list. She was given a high score but was told that new lungs may be difficult to find because her blood type was very rare. In the meantime, she was walking nearly a mile everyday (with the help of a vent and a walker) and visiting Gwyneth for just a few minutes each day.

On April 2, my 27th birthday, we got the call that changed our lives forever. Tricia was going to receive a second chance at life. That night, and throughout the early-morning hours of the next day, Tricia underwent the nine hour surgery to replace her old, sick lungs with a new, healthy pair.

As of November 1, 2010:

Gwyneth Rose spent over eighteen weeks in the NICU. On May 15 (2008), we finally brought her home (to our hotel in Durham). Although she remains on a few medications to help her premature body grow, and her development is progressing slowly, she continues to do incredibly well with no major setbacks. Gwyneth has amazed everyone, including her nurses and doctors. At 2.5 years old, Gwyneth finally began walking on her own, and, with the help of glasses and hearing aids, she is discovering how to communicate with others with sign language and a slowly growing vocal vocabulary. Although she is very small for her age as a former micro-preemie, she is now growing at a very steady pace and is well over 24 lbs. Gwyneth is the joy of our hearts and a smiling baby, and we are having so much fun introducing her to the all of the things that God has given us in this beautiful world!

Tricia is has recovered very well from the transplant surgery. After less than three weeks of recovery, she was finally discharged from the hospital on April 22 (2008) and completed several weeks of rehab at Duke by the beginning of June. While there have been no signs of rejection in her new lungs, Tricia has had some issues with lung infection and was diagnosed in June of 2008 with Post-Transplant Lymphoma (PTLD). As of November (2008), the lymphoma has been in remission. Although she experiences constant minor health issues related to her immunosuppressant meds and her lingering CF , Tricia is now feeling healthier than she has in years as she continues to live with a strong heart and a smile on her face. She is taking to her long awaited roll as a mother with as much joy, grace and determination as she approaches everything in her life.

I literally lived at the hospital with Tricia from December of '07 to April of '08, spending most of my time in Tricia's room and making several visits with Gwyneth every day, sleeping most nights at Tricia's feet, and only returning to our hotel for a little sleep and to spend some time with our dog, Meka. Tricia's mother, Agnes was there with us for most of that time as well, and much of our family (from NC and NJ) spent lots of time with Tricia and Gwyneth whenever they were able.

Tricia and I are slowly returning to a more normal sense of life. We are incredibly excited to have Gwyneth home, and are enjoying our lives as full-time parents. We finally returned home to the OBX in early June of 2008 and purchased our first home in the fall of 2008. We are spending a lot of time with our families, traveling to visit friends, and are looking forward to another awesome summer on the beach!

We are forever grateful to Tricia's donor and his/her family for making the decision to give Tricia a chance to be a mother and wife (not to mention and daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and aunt) for several more years.

We are also humbled to have this opportunity to allow God to use our story to show Himself and bring our passion for awareness of and support for Cystic Fibrosis, Organ Donation, Premature Birth and Lymphoma to the minds and hearts of even more compassionate people.

Thank you for reading our story, and feel free to check back in as we update the blog often. Also, take advantage of the links on the right-hand sidebar to find out even more about our story.

Christmas Article

With Gwyneth's second birthday quickly approaching, and our family of three celebrating our first Christmas in our new home, our friend and writer, Connie Sage wrote a follow-up story on our family which ran in one of our local newspapers on Christmas day...

Christmas at the Lawrensons looks pretty ordinary.

A 7-foot tree trimmed with white lights and childhood ornaments. Presents under the tree. A big dinner planned with family.

But for Nate, Tricia and Gwyneth Lawrenson, today is particularly joyful: Mother and child are healthy.

Gwyneth, who will be 2 years old on Jan. 8, was a “micro-preemie,” born at 1 pound, 6 ounces while her mother, Tricia, was on a ventilator.

Three months after Gwyneth’s birth, Tricia, who was in the end stages of cystic fibrosis, received a double lung transplant.

“This year we can relax and enjoy the holiday season and spend time with family,” said Nate, 28....

1 Year of Blogging

Today marks one day since I began this blog. It started, on our second day in Durham, as a simple and fun way to stay in touch with family and friends back home as well as an opportunity to educate the random stranger who might find their way here. Who could have imagined...

Nearly 6.5 million hits later, it's incredibly hard to believe it's really been a year. I can remember very clearly when the idea for this blog came to my mind, late one night, a few days before This First Post, when I couldn't sleep. I had no idea what lay ahead for us, but I somehow knew it might be a good idea to document it.

We kept the pregnancy a secret for three months, and it was often hard to figure out what to blog about, knowing that there was so much more going on in our lives than we were yet willing to share with more than our family and a few close friends. Those first few months were, in many ways, the most difficult and uncertain, and the blog, and those of you who have been with us since the beginning of the blog, gave me an incredibly therapeutic outlet to laugh and vent and share.

So, today, I'm inviting you to leave a comment and help us remember this past year of blogging. Whether you've been here since day one, or have just joined us in recent months, consider contributing to this post and helping us celebrate.

When did you first start reading CFHusband? Why do you continue coming back? What has been your favorite moment of our story so far? Do you have a favorite post or picture or video?

Thank you so much for your continued support and kind thoughts and words. You have truly helped make this past year very special, and we will always be thankful for your friendship.

A Piece Of Us: 4th Of July '07

This was a great Independence Day...lots of family and friends over at my sister's house for a cookout, and then walked down to the beach to watch the fireworks. This is my sisters' husbands and my uncle in the first clip, and then Tricia on the ground with Meka and a much larger, older pug (I think this was Meka's first experience with another pug since leaving her litter). Enjoy!

(Bump) This Sunday

I've been asked to share our story (with the help of photos, video and music) this Sunday at Nags Head Church at 9 and 11am.

If you're near the OBX, you are more than welcome to come, especially if you don't have a church home. Just, make sure you get there early to get a seat (we tend to be packed during the summer months with or without me). :)

Thanks!

Unspeakable Joy

A close friend from France wrote this...he and his wife were two of the first to learn of Tricia's pregnancy in September.

Unspeakable joy
A lifetime of pain and joy
In 10 months.
Waiting, knowing, not knowing
Wondering, "How far?" "How long?"
Walking by death's door
Life ebbing, so another can live
So your other can live.
Giving yourself away.
Never loosening your hold
On all that is true and dear.
Agonizing breaths
Life could not be denied.
Breaking through.
Unspeakable joy.
Then rest
Gaining strength
To walk by death's door again.
Another walked through
And this time you received
Unspeakable joy.
I can say the months
September, October
November, December
January, February
March, April
May, June
A lifetime of pain and joy compressed into 10 months
I can see the phases
The surprise
The slow build up
The vise tightens
The crisis
Relief
The crisis
Relief
The denouement
Each phase navigated with divine grace
I see the emotions
Joy
Uncertainty
Fear
Pain
Pain
Pain
Joy
Anxiety
Pain
Pain
Joy
Joy
Joy
Unspeakable joy

Finally, I got my answer.

We went to the beach together that day after church. I was basically to the point that I was about to burst. Here we were, spending lots of time together, getting to know each other really well, having great fun with each other, but I had no idea where our relationship was heading.

As Tricia and I walked up the dune toward the ocean, I brought up our conversation from a few weeks before, and asked (it probably sounded more like begging) if she had made a decision.

She said she had. She reached for my hand, looked into my eyes (yeah, this is my romantic version) and told me that, as long as I never called her "Pattysue" she thought she would give me chance.

Of course, my heart was racing and I doubt my face could have hidden my happiness if my life depended on it. Of course, I immediately promised to never call her Pattysue again. And, of course, it only took me a few hours to break that promise.

Although I never kept my part of the deal, Tricia did.

And, just as I had told her she would, a few days later she was growing to love me just as I had loved her for so long.

That was seven years ago today (May 27), perhaps even this very minute. The best seven years of Tricia's life!

Mine too!

I love you, Pattysue!!!

Front Page!

Click Here to read the article online (make sure you click on "Photo Gallery" as well)!

Our story made the front page of today's Sunday edition of The News & Observer newspaper here in Raleigh/Durham!

Yonat Shimron (writer) and Corey Lowenstein (photographer) did an incredibly outsanding job of capturing our story in words and photos (respectively), and we thank them for the hours they spent with us (and, obviously, many more hours spent in research, composition and editing) over the past few weeks.

We are humbled to have this opportunity to share our story, and we pray that God will use this and other opportunities to show Himself and bring our passion for awareness of and support for Cystic Fibrosis, Organ Donation and Premature Birth to the minds and hearts of even more compassionate people.

Thank you!

It was the day after that trip that Nathan somehow decided to do the whole hot pursuit thing again. He would randomly landscape my parents yard without asking, he bought me flowers, took me on lots of dates, would do anything I wanted at the drop of a hat, and he even washed my parents car each weekend (ok, he wasn’t that extreme). But, you get the picture. He was also extremely respectful of getting me home an hour before curfew.

From a Biblical standpoint, this is just how men were created to be. Can I complain? I still see his love shown everyday right now in the same way it was back in those days.

After much time spent together while growing in our friendship, the next big event I remember was my birthday. May 13, 2001. My bestest girlfriend from DE came to spend that special day with me. We had such a great time together. You remember Gabs, right? We made silly video’s together, went to Jockey’s Ridge, ate out at lots of good seafood restaurants, and had a lot of beach time. Good Memories.

My 19th birthday was celebrated with my mom, dad, brothers, Gabs, and some other random people. Nathan came over to my house and gave me a beautiful ROSE that day. He also snuck into my room for my other gift, which was Hawaiian light switch plates that matched my yellow room (that he had made).

My parents embarrassed me with their gift that year: two Christian books about dating. Apparently they saw something coming that I was completely unaware of. I opened up their gift and quickly hid it before Nathan could see what they gave me, then thanked mom and dad in a 19 year old “thanks for just embarrassing me” kind of way.

Gabbi and I, along with many other friends had many conversations about Nathan. I knew he wanted to become more than just friends, but I didn’t think I could like him any more that I already did, and I was happy to just have him as my friend. I honestly just couldn’t see myself falling in love with him and told my friends that.

I also had many conversations with Nathan and told him the same. I became pretty analytical over the whole thing. I had index cards of why we should just be friends, the pro's and cons... I put way too much thought into our relationship, but it was my first serious relationship and I was 19 and didn’t want to get hurt.

So, hopefully most of you can understand.

(Part 3)

For over two weeks I waited for Tricia's response. But, I certainly did not wait while sitting on my hands...if I couldn't convince her with my words, I'd convince her with my actions.

I did some landscaping one day at her family's house while they were away. I changed the oil in her car. I took her mom a flower for mother's day. I even made Tricia something very cool for her birthday (May 13), and embarrassed her a little when I showed up at her house unannounced to give it to her (ask her what it was and she might tell you).

We continued to hang out a lot, and I just bit my tongue whenever the urge came to ask her what she had been thinking concerning our late-night conversation, not wanting to push her if all she needed was a little more time to think

One night, I invited her to go with my family to see a high school play that my youngest sister, Rachel was staring in. After the play, that night, we stopped at a sound access on the same street that our church is on to talk and look at the moon and stars. I have always been fascinated by the moon...earth science was the only science I ever enjoyed, and I loved learning about how the moon works. I love nothing more than to spend time outside under a full moon, especially on the beach.

As we sat next to each other on a bench, under a nearly-full moon, I told Tricia all about the how the tides of the sound and ocean were caused by the moon.

I remember that Tricia was slightly chilly that late evening as we sat and talked...I offered to warm Tricia's hands with my own.

I suddenly had the chills too...

The Story of Us (Part 9)

Nate's Version:
(Part 1)
(Part 2)
(Part 3)
(Part 4)
(Part 5)
(Part 6)
(Part 7)
(Part 8)

Tricia's Version:
(Part 1)
(Part 2)
(Part 3)

This is the part of the story that could be extremely hard to believe...some of you will wonder if I'm lying, others will call me things like "idiot", "cocky" and "sexist", and some may question Tricia's sanity...you'll also be tempted to start a theological discussion in the comments (which I'm more than happy to delete)...I'm just warning you.

So, here I am, sitting in my pickup with a girl I'm crazy for, about to tell her something that I know is going to totally change our relationship forever. Either she's going to ultimately feel the same way about me and we'd live happily ever after, or she's going to be scarred for life and never want to speak to me again...the next few minutes would prove, one way or the other, to be a culmination of the past 9 months of my life...

Needless to say, I was shaking.

Our conversation lasted for about 30 minutes, and there's no real easy way to share everything about it, so here are the cliff notes (imagine that the following is Nathan talking with Tricia)...

I really like you. I think you're just about the most incredible girl I've ever met. I think you're beautiful and fun. I love your personality and how you love God with all your heart. You seem to bring out the best in me and I have literally been crazy about you since the day we met last August. I have no idea if you have been aware of how I feel for you, and I have no idea what you think about me, and I know that this conversation is going to change everything, but I've been wanting to tell you for a long time, and I can't hold it in any longer...

Umm...I really like you...as a friend. I love hanging out with you, but I don't think that I have those feelings for you. I'm not really attracted to you in that kind of way. I don't think you're the one.

So, basically, I had no plan about what I was going to say to that...even after so many months of imagining this conversation in my head, I really didn't have anything planned out beyond what I had already said. So, the next part was completely me going into desperation mode...honest, but desperate.

I basically had a theological discussion about the will of God with Tricia concerning marriage, attempting to persuade her to give me chance. Without going into details (and giving anyone even more reason to have a discussion with me), I shared with her about what I believed God wanted for us as His followers...that He has given us certain guidelines about certain things, but has left the decisions in our hands (with His help). (I'm purposely trying to keep this part vague...if you absolutely have to know exactly what I said, as some of our college friends about the "steering wheel analogy")

I explained to Tricia that I didn't believe that she was "the one" for me either (because I don't believe in "the one"), but from what I knew and experienced about her so far, I would be very, very happy with her for the rest of my life...and I knew I could make her just as happy. Even if she didn't feel the same about me, I told her that (and here comes the really crazy part), if she'd just give me a chance at this deeper relationship thing, I knew that, within a matter of days, she'd be just as crazy about me (you don't know what "stepping out on a limb" really means until you've told a girl that she'll fall in love with you).

I knew that I was taking a huge risk at being so open and honest and blunt with Tricia. I knew that what I was saying could come off as incredibly cocky and jerkish...but I was hoping that, in the time we'd spent together, Tricia had come to a place where she could at least hear what I was really trying to say.

All of this time, I could tell that Tricia was listening and thinking about what I was saying. I could also tell that I hadn't convinced her yet. So, I asked her to, at least, take what I'd shared with her and think about it for a while. I told her I'd give her as long as she needed to give me an answer (I'm not sure if I ever really asked a question).

As she stepped out of my truck that night, and I watched her walk into her house, I felt a great sense of relief...I also felt a new sense of anxiety, knowing that the last 30 minutes could have been the beginning of the end for us.

Back to the waiting game...

And...

Yes, I already have Part 9 of The Story Of Us complete and ready to be published...I promise that it's the best yet, but you ain't seeing it at least until tomorrow, so chill.

I'm off to find something to munch and then go say goodnight to my baby girl (from a distance).

In the meantime, go talk with God, kiss you kids, snuggle with your spouse, wrestle with you dog or eat a late-night snack.

Tricia's Version:
(Part 1)
(Part 2)
(Part 3)

Over those next few weeks, through the end of April and most of May, Tricia and I spent a lot of time together. Bike Rides, Church, Kayaking, Family, Fast Food, Movies...through it all we were getting to know each other better, and God was teaching me patience as, beyond my ability to see and understand, He was beginning to work in Tricia's heart and mind to slowly move her toward me.

I can especially remember one perfect, May night...I was at Tricia's house, and we decided to take a walk down her street (in a very quiet neighborhood) around 11pm. We made it a few hundred yards down, and then sat down in the middle of the warm pavement and spent about two hours just talking and staring up at the stars...pure magic...

The entire time during those few weeks, as we were spending more and more time together, I was slowly working up the nerve to attempt to have "that" conversation with Tricia.

In case you've forgotten, I was incredibly shy around girls, and although I had, a few times before, thought myself to be in love with a girl or two, there was something completely different about my feelings for Tricia. And, having made mistakes with other girls, it took me a long time to figure out how and what I wanted to say. I made up my mind several times to tell her about my love for her, but I kept waiting until the perfect moment to say anything...of course, the perfect moment never came.

The stress of holding it in and knowing that I had to tell her was becoming unbearable, and finally, I made up my mind that I absolutely had to tell her...we were going to see a movie, and at some point after the movie, I was going to break the ice.

I'm a procrastinator...a seriously bad procrastinator...Tricia had even noted at some point before that night that I liked to wait until the last possible second to mention something that I'd obviously been wanting to say. That night was no different.

Literally, as we were pulling into her driveway that evening, and as she was getting ready to open the door and say "goodnight", I forced myself to say it...I think it started out with something like, "So...uh...before you go...ummm...there's something I wanted to talk with you about..."

She stopped reaching for the door and turned to look at me with what I thought was a very strange look (kind of like, "ok...I hope this isn't about what I think it's about...")

This was going to be a very interesting conversation...

It was sometime in April. My friend Sheryl from NJ was getting married and I was going to be a bridesmaid. I needed someone to take me to a bridal shop in Virginia. I didn't know who to ask, and I thought of Nathan. He knew how to get to Virginia, why not give him a call?

With the intention of just having him help me get to VA and having a buddy to talk to, I went ahead and called up Nathan in hopes he would take me and give me a tour of VA.

We drove up that day in my parents jeep, and it seems that day my mind changed it’s view on Nathan.

The only distinct memories from that trip is feeling awkward at a bridal shop with him. Most couples who visit wedding shops are getting married. And, having a really good time with him and catching up on our lives.

Lastly and most importantly, driving home and eating a really good McDonald’s meal. French fries, yum!

I believe I started that day to have more feelings for him.

For My Valentime (Part 3)

The first two weeks of our marriage were everything I'd ever imagined they could be. Fun, Romantic, Crazy, Intimate, New, Surreal, Beautiful.

One day, I will take you back...I don't know when or how, but I promise it will happen.

And, it will be better than the first time.

Thank you for loving me.

For My Valentime (Part 2)

Although you are beautiful every day before and since, this was your day to shine...I'm very certain that nobody even noticed how much time and energy it had taken me too look as good as I did.

You were the perfect bride in every way, and God gave you the perfect day to show off His creation in you to the world. Everyone tells us it was the most memorable and beautiful wedding ever, and it was all because of you. Most weddings are put on to make the bride look good...you made this wedding day look and sound and feel spectacular.

I cried that day as I vowed my life to you, and I cried again as I put this gift together for you, remembering how happy we were that day, and how happy you have made me every day since.

Thank you for loving me.

("Breathe In Breathe Out" by Mat Kerney)

For My Valentime (Part 1)

Tricia...you are my love, my hero and my best friend (haha). The day I became your husband was, in complete sincerity, the best of my life.

You have shown me more than I could have ever imagined, given me more than I could have ever dreamed of, and changed me more than I could have ever have ever hoped for.

You have allowed God to use you to work in my life in amazing ways, and I thank Him eternally.

This is long overdue, as is most of what I have been feeling and saying lately to and about you.

Thank you for loving me.

That day with Tricia in VA Beach was wonderful. Just before we arrived back at her house later that afternoon, we made plans to hang out the next day as well...I wasn't sure if it was because her family was out of town and she was bored, if she was actually wanting to spend time with me, but it really didn't matter... It told Tricia I would take her to one of my favorite places in the world if we could drive her parents' jeep again.

That next day, we made the 40 minute drive up to Corolla and spent several hours 4-wheeling on the beach. Of all the places in the world I would want to live, Corolla would be near the top of the list (it is still one of our favorite places to get away for the day).

On the way home, we had one of those, get-to-know-you conversations. I've always been a good listener and observer, and have always been able to gather little pieces of information and figure out the bigger picture about most people (kind of like a profiler you see on the crime shows). I told Tricia that I could probably tell her things about herself that she had not yet told me...she told me to go ahead and try.

She was very surprised at some of the specific details about her personality that I was able to figure out, and I'm pretty sure that my attention to the things she had already shared with me and my ability to seem to know more about her than she thought I did amused and intrigued her (ask her yourself sometime).

I still didn't have the guts to verbally share my feelings for Tricia with her, and, for as much as I could discern about Tricia, I still could not figure out what she was thinking about me or if she was even aware of my love for her. We were having a great time together, and she sincerely seemed to be enjoying my company, but the month of little contact with her in April, followed by these few days had left me very confused...happy, but very confused. I could sense that things were coming to a place where I would either have to open u and share my heart or would have to resign myself to being her very confused friend for the rest of my life.

The next few weeks would tell....

The Story of Us (Part 6)

(Part 1)
(Part 2)

This post begins my favorite part of the story...you'll soon see why...

April was an incredibly long month. I had made the decision to step back from my pursuit of Tricia's affections, frustrated and not knowing what her feelings were for me. I spent nearly the entire month thinking back on every moment I had spent with Tricia, trying to see a sign that would let me know what she was thinking and what she might do about our friendship.

In the meantime, I was doing my own thing, focusing on work (I think I had about 3 different part-time jobs that spring) and trying to figure out what to do about school. I would see Tricia at church and give her a friendly wave and "hello", but for the most part, I didn't see much of her or hear much from her.

I specifically remember one night, in mid April...I returned home (parents' house) from work late evening to find Tricia, Jessica L. (another good friend) and (maybe) one or both of my sisters watching the movie, What Lies Beneath in our living room. I was excited, at first, to see Tricia in my home...but that excitement quickly turned to dejection when I realized she was in my home with no intention of hanging out with me...

Then, near the end of the month, one evening, everything suddenly began to turn around (or so it seemed).

Tricia called me out of the blue and asked if I would be interested in driving with her to VA Beach (the "big city" for us OBXers) later that week...she needed to shop for a bridesmaid dress, and because her parents would be out of town, and she didn't know her way around VA Beach (and still doesn't even though we later lived there for two years...), wanted to know if I could help her out (hmm.....let me think about that...).

A few days later, I found myself in the driver's seat of her parents jeep (and I am still, always the one to drive), spending the entire day with Tricia. I really don't remember much about that day...probably because I was way too hyped up on crazy love.

In my mind, I was hoping, beyond words, that this day would mark a new beginning in our relationship...

I had no idea...
